NHL 2013 regular season thread!

When Crosby got hit, I was wondering about a possible concussion as well. Even though it hit him in the jaw, his immediate reaction of jerking violently backward could have very well caused a concussion. I hope not, but it could have happened. He's too talented to want to see his career end prematurely. (And this coming from a Flyers fan...) ;)

I really do hope he's okay.

Nice game from Fleury in the win, but another Penguin goes down. This time James Neal. Everyone thought Shero was stocking the shelves with the trades, but maybe he knew something no one else did. :)

Kind of cool for me how Iginla and Jokinen joined the Pens. I've liked both of those guys for a long time.

Friggin' Jokinen is like a machine in shootouts! Sure made it look easy. (But I wish they hadn't let the Rangers pick up a point...)

Jokinen must be on cloud nine right now. Pens fans were pretty confused by the move to pick him up, and everyone basically said he was brought in to win face offs. Well, as his first game as a Pen, he goes 13-2 on faceoffs, scores the only goal of the game (after Bylsma predicted this to happen!), and smokes Lundy for the only goal of the shootout. He looked incredible all game.

I don't think he looked incredible last night he was good.
I think sid is going to be out till next year that's why they went after Jokinen. It looks to me that the pens did what the Rangers did in the past rent a team. From what i have seen last two game with rangers they look like they have zero chemistry my money is the go down in the first round.

A guy who was waived by his former team comes in and plays his first game with his new team, goes 13-2 in the face off circle, creates scoring chances including scoring the only goal for his team, and then gets the only goal in the shoot out, and you don't think that is a great game for him?

How are the Pens renting a team? They made trades before the deadline that would help them the most to win a cup, just like any team who has a chance to win it all does. Rangers showed their true colors with about 8 minutes left in the 3rd, when they really started to play dirty because they were frustrated.

Yeah and the pens where nice guys on wednesday night 8 minutes left in the 3rd ? And the slash on Hank last night was a class move ? "They made trades before the deadline that would help them the most to win a cup" Yes in hockey we call that rent a team especially when the guys are older and in the last year of a contract. I thought it was a good game last night some missed calls both ways the team played rough to me not dirty but i'm an old time hockey guy not a whiny and crying new type fan. And i think Jokinen was good not great or incredible i'v seen wayne gretzky and mario lemieux play so i would use the word good for his performance last night.

That was a good win for the Habs and a bad loss for the B's. At this point, the Habs are the better team.

Three ugly goals, but all created because of effort and a willingness to fight for the puck and muck near the net; Montreal had more life and drive.

B's need to figure out the offensive side of the ice out quick and they need Bergeron back; otherwise, they will leave the SC playoffs early.

The B's had a 6 on 4 for 57 seconds at the end of the game and spent it passing the puck around - no shots. :spit:

What really has me worried is that Montreal did this without diving (they did induce Lucic into a stupid penalty, but that is fair game); it is as if they believe in their skills enough to just play hockey, and their skills are enough to be a legit contender.

Note to Alexei Emelin - don't take a flying leap into Lucic, it is not good for your health.

I'm undecided as to what they should do with Mason, but considering he's an RFA at the end of the season, they should offer him roughly less than what he's currently making. It'd probably go into arbitration but he's got a lot to prove. In the meantime, they should dangle him at the trade deadline in case anybody would like to tackle his salary. Bobrovsky isn't the future by any means, but you need to hurt before you can get better.
(...) Mason will not get a contract from any NHL team (...)
I'm away on vacation and saw the Mason trade when I came back. ;)

Three ugly goals
Absolutely!

That's when you know a team's nervous. Nobody wants to take the shot that'd be blocked by an opponent which would result in icing the puck and killing the clock.

What really has me worried is that Montreal did this without diving (...)
Have yet to see it, honestly. The first dive I've seen from Boston this year was Chara's when Eller barely touched him. That was pretty stupid. Eller's a pipsqueak. I felt like they should've presented him with an Oscar after naming the game's 3 stars. lol!

Note to Alexei Emelin - don't take a flying leap into Lucic, it is not good for your health.
Agreed. The guy's tall but also built like a brick house. Not surprised at the outcome. Sure wish Lucic would play like the power-forward the Bruins drafted him to be. A 6-million dollar player he is not. :(

I'm not surprised.

Jussi was a first-liner in Carolina for a while and was progressing nicely. Then, the Hurricanes get Jordan Staal, Semin, and Tlusty. He's automatically relegated to the 2nd line. Tlusty's play rose him to the top line and pretty soon, Jussi was barely seeing any minutes.

The fact that they traded him for a bag of pucks (a 7th-round draft pick) pretty much means they thought very little of him.

I personally knew the talent was still there and it's a steal for the Penguins to get him. However, if everybody's healthy and his playing min take a dive, so will his motivation and he'll consequently underperform when he's on the ice. He's a solid 2nd-liner for sure.

Thanks for being objective in your view.

About the Lucic/Emelin run-in, I was happy to see Lucic displaying a neutral expression and concerned verbiage when addressing the media as opposed to a goon-ish "Yay! That'll teach him to take a run at me" mentality. :)

Chara's embellishment worked. The B's got a PP out of it. Notice Therrien didn't vent to the media after. The only other coaches who would speak out like Julien did would be Tortorella and Boudreau.

The Bruins' announcers described Chara as selling the call - they root for the home team, but are not blind to the B's flaws.

I didn't watch any of the post-game, glad to hear that Lucic took the high road. Lucic has had moments this year, but I agree not enough to justify the salary. He is especially exposed against fast teams.

I don't understand why Julien doesn't use him like Byfuglien was during the Hawks' Cup run. Instead of playing peripherally, they should have him stationed mere inches from the opponents' goalie. He's not an easy man to remove from the crease.

And I don't believe he's a fantastic passer, so why not have him use his frame better? It boggles the mind.

Anyway...

Was thinking Lundqvist was also hurt in the shootout. He sure looked hurt but then played well against the Hurricanes and looked OK. Looked like he pulled a groin or hurt his on knee the way he was flexing during that shootout.
