NHL 2013 regular season thread!

Ovechkin is now tied for the league league in goals. 16 in last 14 games. 25 total.

The best always come through eventually if they fall down - it's in his blood.

The Penguins have now beat every team in the eastern conference this season. Contributions from all the new guys helped get this win. It's still weird for me to see Jordan Staal wearing a different uniform.

There's a reason for that. They're now playing on the off-wing and he skates to the center of the ice everytime he carries the puck into the offensive zone.

Before that, he just skated in a straight line on the left wing and shot after toe-dragging. It's a major difference in his game and one that makes him less predictable.

My initial comment wasn't out of context. He was going for a 3rd increasingly worse season point total in a row. He had three seasons of 109 points or more followed by seasons of 85 and 65. Before his streak, he had 20 points in 25 games, hardly stats of a guy redeeming himself.

Yeah, true. I was just trying to point out how he has turned it around. Oates finally came to his senses and paired him back up with Backstrom again, another big reason why the Cap are now first in the South and completely turned their season around.

Islanders now tied with the Ott for 6th in conference points (yes, 6th), who, btw, have lost 5 straight.

Isles are 7-1-1 in their last 9. :cool:

Philly is all but done now.

Never thought this woulda happened back in February.

There is something going on on the Island, not sure how long it will last, but damn they look hungry now. They are now scoring the timely goal(s) in the third instead of giving them up. A few of the young prospects (Okposo, Bailey) seem to be finally getting it, and Tavares has been solid all year. Lubomir Visnovsky has been a welcome addition as well, signed an extension after holding out.

As a long suffering Islanders fan, this is the best I've felt about them in a long, long, long time.

Good hockey game. Liked seeing chemistry with the new guys and goals for the young guys. Didn't like some of the defensive failures but Letang will be back soon.

It was over a couple weeks ago for the Flyers, mathematics has nothing to do with it. The 4 game winning streak proved a fluke by catching teams on their off days. They have been missing so many man games on defense alone it's crazy, plus not many have been showing up to play anyhow.

Nice Score.

If UMass-Lowell makes it - that's easy. The goalkeeper from Commerce Michigan - Connor Hellebuyck is a star - only a freshman. I'm not sure how the NHL draft works in terms of how long a team has control over a player - but he was 2012 5th rounder of the Winnipeg Jets. If it ends up a Quinnipiac -Lowell final it could one of those unstoppable force versus immovable object type of games.

Wow, awesome.

If Quinnipiac makes it, keep an eye on Jordan Samuels-Thomas. You won't miss him, he is 6'4". He is really good with the puck and without. Makes some big hits and has a scoring touch too. The Jones twins are fun to watch also. Matthew Peca is a little guy, but he is quick and all over the ice.

UMass-Lowell has a Penguin draftee as well - Scott Wilson a winger. One prospect site had him anywhere between a 2nd liner to a really good AHLer who doesn't really stick. He is a sophmore. I hope you'll get to scout him in person.

Cool! While I know very little about college hockey, I went to the Pens prospect game during camp last year and with a little research on my part to learn some of the players, I had a blast watching them play.

Here's a hilarious clip from the Pens Flyers game earlier this year. I've watched it about 25 times and still can't stop laughing:
