NHL Playoff Race!

I have been cheering for Calgary since the beginning of the second round. They are a small market team, they work harder than I've ever seen any team work, and the fans are loud as hell. That said, I know what Bad Brains is talking about. At times, the clutching/grabbing/interference/obstruction that goes on when Calgary plays is absolutely ridiculous. In fact, the rise of this type of play (along with better goaltending) is probably the reason why teams like Calgary, Anaheim, Minnesota, and Carolina can go on the big playoff runs. On the one hand it is interesting to see these upsets, and the physical aspect of the game can be very entertaining. However, at times it just kills the flow of the game and largely takes skill out of the equation.
Basically, if you are cheering for them it is acceptable, but if you are not, it can be really frustrating. I was cheering for Vancouver and I remember thinking "Oh interference, oh that's holding, oh hooking, more interference, more interference...". So I guess I'm cheering for the Flames the rest of the way.

I think the Flames would match up a lot better against Colorado than SJ. Calgary is really good at neutralizing skilled players and keeping them from playing wide open offensive hockey. However, SJ doesn't play that way. Instead, they are a lot like Calgary; really aggressive, young, fast, hard working team with great goaltending. I think SJ has more depth though and isn't quite as banged up.

Of course, I've been wrong about almost everything so far...

HSU's pretty awesome. I'm almost done with my first year. After growing up in the east bay, it's been quite a change. The hippies are definately here, but you learn to deal with them pretty quickly. The music department's quite good. The campus is flat out beautiful. If you can handle rain, it's great. Also, the people up here are awesome. It was strange at first how relaxed everyone seemed compared to the Bay Area (even those who don't partake in the local "pass-time" :p ). I love it up here, even if the music scene is in need of recovery (too many people taking themselves too seriously if you ask me). But the Jammers' League seems to be starting to growing quite a bit. If anyone has any questions about up here, shoot me a PM or catch me on AIM.

I couldn't believe Philly squandered a 2-goal lead with 10 minutes to go.
I couldn't believe Domi's shot didn't go in for the win with about a minute to go in regulation.
I coulldn't believe the Leafs didn't score early in the OT as they were dominating play in the Flyers' end of the ice.
I couldn't believe that hit on Kapinen! Caramba! He was destroyed & still managed to get back to the bench(Montreal's players need a lesson on that!).



...and then Roenick & LeClair came back on a 2-1 rush.
Roenick shoots...

That was um... amazing... Do have to say that it is also amazing that kapinen is ok according to philly:/

Philly defenatly deserved that one... too bad they wont win the cup... sharks will beat the crap out of them... yes thats my thought on it finals will be sharks vs philly and sharks will beat em... dont think TB will do that great against philly and well... sharks... who else but sharks:]

Man, that hit on Kapinen was absolutely ridiculous. I'm just glad it was more or less clean, unlike Antropov going after Roenick while he's looking the other way. I wouldn't be surprised if Kapinen misses the first game or two of the next series, he looked rather concussed IMO.

I think Philly has a pretty good chance to win it all now, I don't see TB being better other than with the goaltending. And SJ vs Flames... that should be an awesome series. I gotta call Flames just because they're Canadian and they've been damn fun to watch so far during their cup run.

How do any of you 'Nucks fans feel about the Brian Burke thing? It's a pretty dumb move by their management from the perspective of an Ottawa fan.

Yah, I'm kind of surprised Marc Crawford doesn't seem to be taking any heat over those playoff flops. It finally caught up to Jaques Martin in these parts anyway... of course we gave him 8 years.

I did think he handled the Bertuzzi thing admirably this year, going out to make a couple good moves at the deadline to give the team and fans hope. Considering his contract situation at the time, he went above and beyond. IMO, I would also think that he's played at least some part in having that stadium sold out for next year.

But yah, interesting points there that I hadn't thought of neccessarily.

I agree...& I was trying to make that point earlier in this thread(when some say they prefer the style of Canadien teams over the US teams...I don't really see a big difference).
Anyway-
Philly does a big Euro influence this season.
Clarke finally woke up.

Actually, I was just thinking yesterday that it was weird that 3/4 goalies left are european, instead of the usual slew of french canadian Pat Roy protegees...

Anyway, the Flames roster is currently carrying 29 players. Eight of those are from somewhere other than North America. Only 3 Americans, that leaves 18 Canadian players... all full of fight and energy. :D
