I can hear your pain...still, after 24 years! That Soviet team was the then-greatest team NOT in the NHL; Hell, that Soviet team coulda easily played IN the NHL & been very, very successful.
...and yet, they was beat by some rag-tag American students.
;)

BTW, I did not see Miracle when it was in the cinema; I will be buying it the day it's released on DVD!

Yeah, I saw that and cringed. I couldn't help but think of Ed Van Impe back during the Flyers' heyday. Word on the street here is that it missed the eye but did damage to the orbital bone under the eye.

I'd still like to see the Wings recover and win it all, but it's gonna take a serious dose of character, and their best character guy is now sidelined.

More importantly, I would hate for that to be the last play in Stevie Y's amazing career.

I am not pissed because they won:] americans played excelent game... very good win... just... 24 years... give me a brake... and instead of showing how good game was they did regular... "evil soviets always cheating/slashing/kicking and good old american boys are just clean playing never braking any rules... just very badly done...:/
and damn it... 24 years...


OMG i am watching philly game WTH is their problem... why dont they respect the old leafs???? whats with leafs... whats going on 6-1 wth... how..

I love Ed Van Imp...his bonecrushing check sent the Soviets to the locker room during those '70s exhibition games.

I hope Yzerman returns to the ice real soon.

Primeau looked like a one-man wrecking crew today.

Yeah he did. I was glad to see that. He caught total hell here in Detroit. Mostly undeserved. You'd have thought he was a goalie (we treat goalies REAL bad in Detroit). Glad to see he's doing so well in Philly and is better appreciated. Actually, he makes the difference as to whether I root for Philly or Toronto.

I remember here in detroit Premeau was treated badly because he was considered an underachiever. He was suppose to be like the next Eric Lindros or something. I always liked him though, glad to see he's doing well.

As for Detroit i think they are finished. Without the captain i don't think they will do much, they don't seem to have heart this year. I'm surprised with all the potential "captains" we have on the team no one has stepped up yet. This seems to be a trend, Detroit is known for getting knocked out by much lower placed teams.

A big "thank you" to Calgary for all the holding and dulling of the game. I give them credit for what they have done but all the holding they do is riduculas. Teams like Calgary really have to stop trying to bore the fans to death, i can't even watch the games anymore.

There also the kind of team that makes the games so darn boring. No one is going to want to watch if teams like the Flames make it to the finals. Just like last year, i think the series between the Ducks and Devils was the lowest rated series ever.

I give them credit though, Detroit sure played with no heart or energy, except Yzerman before his eye socked got crushed. Poor Yzerman :bawl:

They play to win first...if people are entertained while they do that...thats just bonus.

I'll watch... the Flames have been one of the most entertaining teams in the playoffs to watch so far IMO, there hasn't been a boring game yet. Last night's win was another great example... incredible goaltending at both ends, tight checking, great finish. I think the Flames have a legitimate shot at winning the cup after watching that last series, they're not afraid of anyone and Kipper is really on a roll.

As for Ottawans cheering for the Leafs... not until they have the Cup wrapped up with 30 seconds to play and the happiness that a Canadian team has won it takes over. And I don't see the Leafs winning it for a long long time :p That walloping they took from Philly is the loudest I've cheered during a hockey game since the Sens were eliminated.

I'd always assumed the reason Americans went to games was because they thought of it as a blood sport, thanks for bringing that up. I think a lot of the appeal of NFL football is probably for the same reason.

Congats to the Flames. They totally shut down the Wings.
What was it....seven periods in a row without allowing a Detroit goal?
Cujo was awesome throughout this series and the only reason it went to six games. (if only he could score goals too).
Draper and Maltby played their a***s off.
We know about the injured Wings: Yzerman(puck in the face), Hull(broken toe), Lang(broken left hand),Chelios(torn rotator cuff), but....where the heck was Shanahan, McCarty,et.al? No one stepped up because it looked like no one showed up.
All I can say to the Calgary fans out there is enjoy the ride the rest of the way.
(At least we still have the Pistons in Motown.)
