Um, go Bruins? What is going on in Detroit? I know they've been struggling, but I watched last night on NBC Sports and the attendance was totally abysmal.
The announcers tried to make light of it, saying that the new facility and attractions have a lot of would-be attendees spending more time in the new shops, bars, and restaurants (presumably watching the games on TV) rather than actually going to the game. I thought that was a pretty shallow attempt to put a good spin on things. To me, it looks like the fan base can't tolerate a bad team, and putting their wallets behind their support (or lack thereof).
And last nights game might explain why: giving up the game tying Bruins goal (with Rask pulled) in the last minute, and then losing in OT. Painful loss, after they played pretty well the whole game. So, what's the deal?
Did the fans forget so fast all those good years? They stopped going here pretty quick when the team started missing the playoffs
Stupid Leafs.
