NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Fleury hasn't played in over a week. He has a concussion. Last I heard, there is no timeline for his return.
Bummer for Las Vegas losing Fleury, but double bummer when his backup, Malcolm Subban, then went down too.

And the Leafs, after an ugly loss in the Battle of Ontario, signed veteran, gritty P.O. defenseman Roman Polak to a 1 year contract.
Much maligned, cuz he’s slow as molasses in January, he played really well the end of last year and into the playoffs before he gruesomely snapped his leg.
He’ll end up in the third pairing likely, and on the PK. I’m glad they signed him. None of these young d-men like to hit or go into the corners (the rookie Borgeman perhaps, has shown some moxie, but is still young and making some rookie mistakes). I like Hainsey, I think he was a good pickup, but the D is weak still. Plus Polak is right handed.
I’m happy with it, he’ll make other teams think twice about going into the corners without their heads up.
PS, I’m Crosby fan, but lol at his 10 minute misconduct, and the ensuing debacle that game was. For all he’s a fantastic player, his whining and bitching to the officials always makes me cringe. I think he was just s by a message.
And lastly, kudos to the VGK’s, I can’t believe that their luck will hold out, especially with a third string goalie, but dammit if they aren’t fun to watch, and the feel good story of the year.

Here I was mocking Barry Melrose and his perennial picking of the Bolts as Cup winners, but there might be something to that this season. Stamkos (or shall I rephrase that as a 'healthy' Stamkos) is leading the league in scoring, and he's got quite a supporting cast in Kucherov, et al. That tandem leading the team is akin to the Crosby/Malkin dynamic which has won the past two years.
Regarding the Pens...agreed that Niemi is simply not an NHL caliber goalie anymore. How bad do you have to be when you give up SEVEN goals in one game and your GAA actually goes DOWN??? Are you effing kidding me?

Also, Leafs put Fehr on waivers, so that settles the 4th line center decision with Moore.

I wasn't happy with how he played on the ice, but as a human being, that makes me sad seeing someone get fired.
I hope he gets a job with another team.

I see where you're coming from and I tend to feel the same way.
But he's at the end of his career and he's made million$ over the years to retire on. He and his family will be fine. May we all be so lucky!

Pens are only on the hook for $700g's of that fortunately. They might bring Jarry or DeSmith up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
I just heard Fleury will be back in "a matter of days as opposed to weeks." I hope so.
The Bruins are looking like a team that will be the last team in the playoffs or one of the first to miss them. The good news is they have gone with youth and speed so the team should get better as the year goes on.
Las Vegas will be tough at home. The B's looked like they stayed up too late at the casinos and were completely outplayed.

'Yeah, the Pens are paying him $700K, but I was referring to the Dallas contract(s). I didn't look it up but if memory serve me correctly both him and Lehtonen were each pulling in about $4.5M/yr each for the past few years. Plus he was paid pretty well in San Jose. No tears for Niemi!
Just checked capfriendly, he’s made about $33 million in his career. No tears.
But talk about a fall, went from making $4.5m to $700k, to unemployed after this season.
Oh well, wish I could have retired at 34.
