NHL Regular Season 2017-18

No doubt about it. I was tuning in to the Leafs game in between breaks in the Pens-Caps game hoping to see if Matthews was going to lead the comeback against the Devils. Not to be last night but there will undoubtedly be more games where he does pump a few in.
The Pens need a second goalie. Niemi is not the answer.
It is curious to me how the NHL schedules games.
The Pens played at home Wednesday, then flew to Tampa after that game for the game tonight.
The last time Tampa played was a home game Monday night against Washington.

Yep, the NHL schedule used to be pretty regular...Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, with an occasional Sunday thrown in for good measure. Nowadays it's a mishmash of whenever the arenas are free. It does seem odd that the Pens have had two back-to-back sets already and it's barely a week into the season. At least the Eastern teams don't have the travel headaches that the Western teams have to deal with.
Back a few years ago when Pittsburgh picked up Brendan Morrow from Dallas at the trade deadline he commented that he was pleasantly surprised by the quick and easy trips to nearby NHL cities in the East.

Yep, very impressive western road trip.
Those same Sens I was kind of pulling for last spring against the Rangers and Bruins suddenly became the enemy when they played the Pens. (Ditto Nashville, too). But they took the Pens to a Game 7 OT that I gotta be honest, was decided by as flukey a goal as you'll ever see. Kunitz and the Pens were fortunate to leave the Sens peskiness behind. Even without a bonafide superstar up front, they are a formidable contender. Fun team to watch.

It's about time somebody didn't cave in to the PC police and the "hurt feelings society". Especially when 90% of these apologies are about as insincere as an apology from a 3-yr-old. Yeah, dumb joke, but it is a J-O-K-E. Get over it.
The Flyers were as complete as I have seen them play in a long time Saturday. I wish I could have seen it live, but I had to record it as I was moving the entire weekend. Great way to enjoy my Sunday afternoon though 
The 4th line is credible and especially Leier, Laughton and Raffl.
Fippula is scoring goals when opportunities arise. A nice wrinkle to his pass happy game so far!
I was hoping Travis would get in on the fun but it seemed flow and chemistry won out even with the game well in hand. Meh.
I'm not sure how I feel about them sending Sam Morin down though.

They can take Raanta off the Coyotes hands. The 'Yotes would be better off playing with a third defenseman back there, IMO.
What's your take on the new playoff format in the Southern Professional Hockey League? They call it 'pick your opponent'.
There are eight teams in the playoffs. Teams 1-3 choose from teams 5-8 as the team they will face.
The #4 seed gets the team left over.

Wow, sounds interesting. I imagine that would provide motivation for the team that was being picked by the #1 team...Ha! they think we're easy to beat!
Kind of like NHL All-Star format a couple years ago when each player was picked by captains like we would do as kids on a playground. I still remember how totally pissed Logan Couture was being picked last! LOL
