NHL Regular Season 2017-18

i share jimfist's concerns, but I am a bit more optimistic that the B's will be ready. They were clearly resting players and didn't have a lot to play for down the stretch. Rask needs his D to be reasonably sharp; when they are, he is as good as anyone, but when they are not, Rask doesn't necessarily lose them the game, but he doesn't seem to steal them many games either. Even missing Carlo, this year's D is much better than last year which is why I am reasonably confident.

I'm looking forward to the SCP - it is the only sporting event that I can watch non-Boston teams compete simply because the level of play is so high.

And then their final game ended in a 6-6 tie with the Devils... remember ties in hockey?

Finished the season with 119 points, then lost to the Islanders.

That was the last one the Pens were looking for a three-pete.

Speaking of "ties" in hockey, remember when the coaches all wore the loudest, most obnoxious ties they could find?:laugh:

Lately a LOT of things I remember were (surprisingly) 25 years or so ago. Time flies when you reach a certain age. That losing to the Islanders I remember all too well. David Frickin' Volek. (Our version of Bucky Freaking Dent)

But one important stat to remember is that it was 43 yrs ago that Philly last hoisted the Cup. Soon to be 44. ;)

Unfortunately, I remember that all too well. Of course to ME, that was a pleasant memory. The dry spell after that is what hurts... :(

Well @MJ5150 - Here we go. Giroux -v- Crosby (with apologies to all the other players on both squads).

I just hope whomever wins this series has enough left to compete. In '12 the Flyers flamed out and that was a shame.

The Penns speed across all their lines has me worried. The Flyers net is going to be tested early and often.

Over under on the number of total penalties? :D

The only way the Flyers can win this series is to stay OUT of the penalty box. The last time I heard Doc Emrick announcing a Flyers game, he pointed out that the Flyers are one of the least penalized teams in the league now. (Drawing a sharp contrast to how they used to be perceived.) Five-on-five they tend to play well. But if they give up a lot of power plays to Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, et.al., it'll result in early tee times for them once again...

Yeah I completely agree about the penalties but unfortunately this is Flyers / Penns.

The Penns were numero uno at power plays and the Flyers were one of the worst at killing penalties during the regular season, however they did get much better to end regular season.

I'm a fan but I'm not overly optimistic. I'm going with a rather Mikeian out-take for my fan interest. The Flyers will win one but wont win the series.

Yeah, there are a couple of teams that have changed their style of play completely over the last little bit. Flyers are one, not nearly as penalized as in days of yore, and the Devils are now a offensive skating team! Big changes from their classic styles.

My three keys to a series win for the Pens:
1) Play defense.
2) Sullivan needs to push the right buttons.
3) Keep your head in the game.

My three keys to a series win for the Flyers:
1) Glove side high on Murray.
2) Rough up Crosby.
3) Get in Malkin's head.

Apart from Wayne Simmonds, I don't like the Flyers. I really hope the Pens find a way to beat Philly four times in the next few days.
