NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Sooooooo it looks like the Flyers are spectating?

5 more years, maybe.

I'm only teasing. I've got no dog in that one; Kings-Bruins for the Cup, bay-bee!

Lol, me either.

Sid is ridiculous, and I don't care what anyone says, he's the best in the world.
Knocking pucks out of the air, scoring a hat trick. He's the man.

And @MJ5150, nice to see Murray back in playoff form, hope he maintains, until the Leafs have to take him down.

Ooh, that was a fun one!

But it's only one game, and I'm sure philly will say the same thing. Whether you lose 7-0 or 1-0, you only get to count 1 loss. Likewise on the win column.

But day-um! That one feels good! Great way to start the postseason!

I've been a Flyers fan since the '70s. This has to have been one of the worst games I've ever seen them play. At least for quite awhile.

Their puck-handling was atrocious, and I've never seen so many failures to clear by a team in one game in my life. Couldn't take advantage of the few really good scoring chances they had. Missing open nets. Shooting wide of the goal over and over. Absolutely amazing.

There IS the old adage that no matter how badly a team loses, it still only counts as one game. But no matter how fired up the Flyers might come out for Game 2, the Pens already smell blood after scoring a touchdown and extra point in Game 1. I have to wonder whether the Flyers will EVER find another franchise goalie...

In the '60s, NBC would run one game a week. That's when I first got interested in the game(I grew up in Miami). It seemed like the Flyers were on about every other week so I got attached to them. These ain't exactly the same kinda Flyers

I'm glad for the Win. Also glad it was a shutout. I'm not normally for the high scoring games, but watching a few of those goals was pretty awesome. Philly just seemed slow and unprepared entirely for that. I expect things to go a little differently tomorrow.
The LAK/VGK game was pretty fun to watch as well, though I didn't watch it to the end.
MIN/WPG I caught a bit of. Cool to see WPG put a win on the first night of the series. That's their first playoff victory, right?

YUP!

The Pens blowout will escalate tensions between those two. I could see it getting really ugly from here on out, but perhaps the Pens keep the throttle on wide open and go for the throat Friday.
Three straight playoff shutouts from Murray, and something around 200 minutes of shutout hockey. That there is impressive for a goalie that some think isn't all that great.
On the other side of the country, Fleury gets playoff shutout #11.

As others have said that would be an INTERESTING matchup. I'd prefer VGK to pull it off but wouldn't expect it.

I was thinking the same thing about things getting a lot chippier Wednesday. But one thing specifically that I think might happen is a result of all of the Flyers failures to clear the puck out of their own zone. As a result, I think they'll be so intent on not letting that happen again that they'll frequently have their heads down instead of on a swivel. I'm thinking there could be a lot of chances for the Pens to level some vicious open-ice hits on them because of that. So I think that Game 1 blowout is gonna' have a lot of consequences.

On the other side, Crosby was unhappy with the Pens power play going only 1 for 4. So the Flyers had better be ready for quite the onslaught when they're short-handed. (Not that the Pens NEEDED their power play in Game 1...)

If it gets chippy, it's cuz the Flyers lose their cool, and they will pay for it.
Pens ran the score up when they didn't have to, agreed, but if the Flyers decide to play tough guy, the Pens power play will get its groove and it will be another disaster for them.
It's too early for that, the Flyers have to settle down and start playing smarter, and more defensively. Otherwise they'll be golfing by next weekend.
