NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have him, but he is kinda old school, and has certain ideas stuck in his head. For example, we'll never have a 1st line like Bergeron, Marchand, Pasternak. He won't put 3 goal scorers together, gotta have a "digger" on the line. Always has to have an old guy on the 4th line, an old guy on defense, etc. it's worked well for him, but as the game changes, I hope he adapts.

Well said. People criticized Claude around here for the same kind of old-school tics. Great coach, good guy, highly respected, but inflexible; Cassidy, using a lot of the same Boston and Providence players, has created a completely different team.

Claude didn't really have a Bergy/Marchy/Pasta line either. Pasternak under Julien would not have become Pastrnak. If that makes sense.

Dammit, Mike, the Flyers must have read your post about how to turn things around. They came out flying (no pun intended) and proceeded to make the Pens into the team they were on Wednesday. Pens can't make two passes in a row, no lanes to skate or pass, and once again, an average goalie has his best career game against them. Elliot looks unbeatable tonight. :(

Yeah, that Babcock guy doesn't know much about the playoffs. Good idea to call him out.

  • Actually, you are right. With teams like the Olympic team or World Cup teams, he has been great. His playoff record with some real good teams in Detroit, not so much. Not going to knock him too much, but like @DerekW said, hope he is up for how the game IS changing.

Well yeah, isn't It 1 for 2 as far as playoff game suspensions go? So that's like a 6 game suspension.
Or did I make that up in my own head?

Hope he can appeal, that was not THAT bad.

The League seems to be signalling playoff suspensions will be similar to regular season. It sucks to be the first under a new policy, but that is the risk you take for dicey hits late in a game that you are getting spanked in.

To be fair, if the ref had called the blatant elbow to the face that precipitated the whole thing, we would not even be talking about this.

No. That the refs may have missed one does not mean that, then, you DON'T call the other blatant head-hunting. Now, if you had said that the Wingels elbow should have been called, and included some sort of punishment beyond a 2 min. penalty, no argument there. Bad behavior of one does not dismiss bad behavior of all.
