Never said I was dismissing or justifying Kadri's hit. It was deserving of a call, maybe not as severe a punishment as was levied, but the hit did need to be called for at least a charging/boarding penalty. I am saying that if the ref had not "missed" the blatant elbow, we would not be having this discussion.

(un)fortunately I was gigging so missed it. Just picking up on the description from here.. But on the ice or the gridiron they almost always catch the second offense.

Finally saw it during Devils/Bolts break. I've seen a lot worse but not too smart. TB 2, NJ 0:)

Kadri admitted he only hit him because the ref's arm did not go up on the original call. Hence his (somewhat justified) suspension. But if the correct original call was made, there would have been no hit by Kadri. That said, not going to knock Kadri for sticking up for his teammate when appropriate justice was not forthcoming. If the league doesn't want to see this kind of thing (and not really sure about that...) they should make sure the correct first call was made. I cannot for the life of me see how that call could have been "missed", it was right in the play where the puck was, no way all 4 referees could have missed it. And yes, a Linesman CAN speak to a referee to have a call like that made.

I'm with you there. A lot of Bruins fans thought that the Backes 3 game suspension was way over the top considering no past history. Agreed that the officials and league disciplinary review board tend to be wildly inconsistent...sorta like the NFL at times, but not nearly as awful.

He's retiring after this year, thank god.

And What an awful period. I think I watched 60 games this year. And I have never seen them play this bad, I feel sick.

The refs sure seem 1 sided. But still, it's a mess. And take Zaitsev right out of the game.
