NHL Season 2018-19

It's only December. I'm not worried. When you're used to winning, being super good at the start of the season is no longer a big deal.
The Pens will be ready when it matters.

-Mike
Yeah, this season is eerily similar to the '15-'16 season. Pens couldn't string together any type of winning streak then under Johnston, Sid looked disinterested, and nobody was gelling. In December, they canned Johnston, inserted Sullivan, Sid looked rejuvenated, and the rest is history. Two Cups in a row.

Not saying Crosby is having as rough a time this year as back then, as he is playing some good hockey, just that the points aren't as plentiful partly due to inconsistent wingers (all the ones not named Guentzel).

But I totally agree that they'll make the playoffs with ease by the time April rolls around.

Glad they got something for Sprong. He's way too timid for the North American game, and I predict he'll be back in Europe within two years.

Watching the Red Wings-Avs game...what the heck were the refs watching? Red Wings got away with some real bush league stuff. Calvert gets checked in front of the Wings bench, where one of the Wings on the bench grabs his stick, then two more start holding Calvert and then sucker punching him. No calls at all. Not to mention a couple of cross-checks and other cheap shots that also received a blind eye from the refs.

I'll be disappointed of the league doesn't suspend Bertuzzi for a couple of games for his ridiculous sucker-punch, and at least give that weenie Larkin a game too, for his participation. Larkin won't touch anybody on the ice but he sure was brave on the bench surrounded by his teammates.
Well, the League came through in suspending Bertuzzi. Two games for this clown's antics.

The two refs also ought to be reprimanded too, though. How does at least one of them not see any of this? :rollno:

I think they should try to deal Brassard, He still has potential to be an effective offensive presence somewhere, but unfortunately he just hasnt seemed to "gel" with the Pens. Plus VGK will be paying 2 mil of his salary wherever he goes until his current contract runs out.
I think you hit the nail on the head as to why he's still there...his salary is nicely augmented by VGK. If the Pens were paying his entire salary, no doubt he'd already be gone.

And as you noted, he's got potential to contribute, but it just hasn't happened in the 'burgh. It'll be interesting to see how much longer they show patience with his lack of production. Oddly enough, the Knights could actually use him this season...they ought to try and trade for him since they're paying 40% of his salary already.

Yeah its ironic, we could really use a couple guys like Cole & Reaves right now too. Not that I dont think Oleksiak is ok in pretty much filling RR's role.
I still think the Brassard trade was a good gamble by JR, they dont always pay off though.

Yep, I was mildly psyched when the trade went down, thinking he'd finally add some third line scoring. Still waiting...

Been watching many Avs games this year, and as expected, Cole is making his mark there. Lots of big hits, couple of fights, blocking shots...basically all the things the Pens could really use right now. <sigh>

Noticed a few weeks ago that Reaves was actually on the second PP unit! Couldn't get a regular shift as a Pen but getting some looks out there on the PP in Vegas. Who knew?

Enquiring minds want to know what the team will be called. I'm still seeing about 8-10 names still being bandied about.

And here's a link to the many uniform possibilities.
The Seattle uni design awards revealed

Here's my vote if I had one...

For me, not that I was around then, but the Metropolitans is the only right name.
But I also understand this is 2018. People now like new and shiny things that are trendy with social media and technology.
I also know both owners have zero ties to Seattle, well aside from Bonderman going to UW 55 years ago, so neither have any sense of community to make them want to carry on a Seattle NHL history.
I will give that Kraken logo some credit though for the discreet shout out to the Metropolitans in that S on the chest.

Yes, I am sort of bitter about this announcement. I don't feel like this team is going to be about hockey fans, real hockey fans. It's going to be about trendy people being seen in trendy places. It's going to be an investment for people to make money. Hockey will be played along the way, and there will be a handful of real hockey fans at games, but that won't be what this is about.
I think I'll just keep going to Seattle Thunderbird games.

Maybe the Pens will let them take Matt Murray in the expansion draft like Vegas took Fleury. ;)
If we can wait that long...

Can we leave Murray in the AHL until then?

-Mike
