NHL Season 2018-19

The Bruins have been playing very good hockey so far in February. Haven't been able to stay awake for the current West Coast swing (I usually can catch the 1st and sometimes part of the 2nd) but so far 3-0 including a wild OT win last night (Sharks did a nice job coming back after being down 3-0 late in the first to going ahead 5-4 in the third.) Both goaltenders are playing well - Rask even had a Tim Thomas-like double pad stack save against the Kings. They are starting to get some secondary scoring (last night the only goal from one of their big scorers came from DeBrusk) and the special teams continue to be solid. They close the trip with Vegas on Wednesday night. The B's and Leafs are looking like one of the matchups in the first round with home ice still up in the air. Tampa would get Montreal.

Secondary scoring abounds and the Pens do something they haven't done once all season, they beat New Jersey thanks in part to Murray coming up big in the third when the Devils really got after him.
As of now, the Pens sit in third place in the metropolitan.

Neat stat from that Devils game...Pens had 10 different players score one point each. Spreading the biscuit around paid off last night.

Except when Kessel handed the puck to Johansson and let him walk in and score. Sheesh, I've coached peewee players who had better defensive instincts than #81. (And @MJ5150 will be glad to note that the reason Kessel was covering the D position was because Jack Johnson pinched in low in the offensive zone and couldn't get back in time. ;))

Oh boo hoo. This is the 2010's where even fans can access data and stats on players that maybe teams only had access to back in the day.
Everyone knew what the Pens got themselves into with that move Jim. Well, apparently you. I suggest you stop hitching your wagon to Johnson. It was a bad move, just admit it.

Well, JR still has a 1st rounder in his pocket but the impression I get from that article is that he is in no hurry to get rid of it by Monday.

I missed the game last night cos of band practice, just glad they got them devils off their back. I read about Puddy from Seinfeld being there, maybe he reverse jinxed them.

Thanks for that link...interesting reading. However, JR's quotes are about as typically non-committal as possible, so it makes me think he's got something in the works. We certainly don't need any more forwards, but I like Dzingel or even Ferland as a possibility if we can unload one of our non-producing forwards. Not many good D-men available, unfortunately. Glad we got Pettersson when we did.

I've been following the Cats for the past several years, and although it's been frustrating since they (stupidly) let Gallant go, I still believe these guys can do some damage in the near future. Here's hoping it's the near future!

Agreed. There isn't a lot of dead weight and they have some(near)superstars, so I'm hopeful. Meanwhile, the Bolts keep on rolling.

They might be a smidge ahead in the rebuild, but still too many mistakes, particularly in their own end. GLG, I have to ask, do you get to many games? I know a Leaf's ticket is a tough get.
I remember when, back in the 80's and 90's, a lot of Southern Ontario fans were P.O.'d at Buffalo because of the perception that we blocked a possible franchise in Hamilton. Don't know how much truth there was to that.

Hardly ever get to go to Leaf games, maybe once every couple of years. Tickets are hard to get and stupid expensive. It is easier and cheaper to travel to Detroit, Buffalo Ottawa or Columbus and stay over night. You get a mini vacation for less than the price of a pair of Leaf tickets. Do get to quite a few Marlie games, good hockey, tickets are way cheaper and readily available.
I do think there was some truth to that story, a lot of Canadians from Hamilton and Niagara region regularly go to Buffalo for Sabres games, there was some concern it would affect Sabres paying fan base. But think the real reason was that if Hamilton got an NHL team, Toronto would want one too.
