NHL Season 2018-19

After going 1-for-8 in my Round 1 picks, I'm not doing anymore prognosticating.
Instead I'll just mildly and calmly pull for the Stars/Avs/Canes/Jackets to advance.

From who? Not me. I was never once sold on Tampa all season. I did pick your boys to beat them last round.

Just generally speaking. After the series, everything was about the Lightening choking/folding, nothing about the skill of the Jackets.
BTW, don't think that they won't use this "Now that the Bolts are out of the playoffs, it's smooth sailing for the Bruins in the east" business to motivate them to do it all over again. I'm not saying they'll sweep them or even win the series, but the Boston hype is going to make it a tougher series for all involved.
I'm looking forward.

Even the poor Islanders had to deal with that a little bit when they beat the Pens and they were favored.
I totally mean it when I say I don't pay much attention to those talking heads and get my info/analysis from all y'all. I think the hockey knowledge in our threads rivals what the networks have.
Maybe it's because of seeing Columbus up close the last couple years in the playoffs and being in the same division that I knew they were right there on the edge of turning the corner. I was surprised it was a sweep, but not surprised in the least they beat Tampa.

My Blue Jackets knowledge is nil. I'm old enough that I still think of them as one of them upstart expansion teams, punching above their weight. But they've been around for almost twenty years now.
It's not like a "normal" Bruins series against TML or the Rangers or, especially, the dirty Habs. Around here, those teams are known quantities. I'm actually enjoying this matchup because I like chaos and unpredictability; I've got no clue how it'll go.
But the first five minutes will tell me a lot.

I saw an article at ESPN.com earlier this week that was about the inconsistent playoff officiating in the NHL. I forgot to mark it to read later.
Speaking of ESPN, I was just reminded a few minutes ago about the 'bunch of jerks' comment from Don Cherry. I need one of those shirts.

I missed the 1st, (band & choir practice @ church) but they were saying on the radio that the Jackets were still shaking off a bit of rust. They haven't played for a couple of months now.
Or so it seems.
They've been looking better in the second. Bob is looking strong, but Rask is really on his game tonight. I don't know why Boston is not spent from the TML series, but they're looking pretty fresh.

As for the Eakin apology, I thought today was the right way to handle it. NHL owning up, VGK being grown-ups. Really, there's no other way it could've been handled; they're not replaying the game, and it still boils down to STOPPING SHOTS. The poor penalty call was the officials' fault, but four goals in four minutes wasn't. If you're going to be successful in the NHL playoffs, you need to kill 5-minute majors and you need to hold 3-goal leads. They did neither.
Bobrovsky's on it tonight. Boston needs to put their foot back on the gas.

CBJ impressed me tonight. That first period was a mismatch, but Bobrovsky kept them in it and they hung tight.
Not only do we HAVE hockey in North Carolina. But it turns out they're pretty good!

Huh. Well, NC has had good hockey since the Whalers moved from Hartford to Raleigh in 1997.No. I think my brother went to a game once. That's about all I got.

I only got to see the OT. Werenski has obviously been watching game film of the Pens' defense on that winning goal from Coyle. Way out of position and slow getting back. That's was too easy of a goal to give up after playing well enough to hang with the B's into OT.
Dallas came out smokin' but St Louis woke up soon enough to take an early 1-0 lead and that seemed to deflate the Stars the rest of the first period. Still hoping the Stars can get enough open ice to play their game...speed and rotation in the O-zone.
