Even though I was pulling for Dallas, they were lucky. Their goal was on an assist from the ref, and if it weren't for Bishop's heroics, they never would have been going to OT. The Blues had countless chances throughout the third period especially, but Bishop was a brick wall. Still, that was an exciting series to watch, and got very little mention here.

I thought Brian Burke's explanation of suspensions on HNIC last night was pretty good. Talking about the McEvoy suspension and discipline in general, he was saying that the NHL weights suspensions depending on when they are served, as if it was the regular season McEvoy would have probably gotten ten games or maybe even two if it was the first round of the playoffs and that for the conference finals it was worth one. If it's true I can understand that, but I'd also be surprised if it really was a standardized process.

I watched that goal a bunch of times in slow motion and he played it right. The D tried to pass the puck behind the net to the far side. He saw the pass and then slid to the other side of the net anticipating the puck moving up the far boards. Unfortunately the puck hit the ref's skate and deflected right to the front of the goal from the near side. An easy tap in goal for the Stars forward who happened to be standing there. Just a really bad break.

But if he played it right, he would have made the save, right? ;)

I agree it was a total fluke with the ref bounce but he didn't even wait to see if the puck actually came around the other side before moving to grab his stick, especially with zuccarello in his zone on the side he was moving away from. It just looked like something I'd be screaming at my kid for if he let one in that way.

At his age, I'd venture a guess he won't make that mistake again.

Speaking as a former goalie with more than 10 years experience (granted it was only intercollegiate plus men's league), I have to disagree. Its all about playing the percentages and 99.999% of the time that pass goes around behind the net clean.

Your job as a goalie is to transition as quickly as possible from side to side, and if you are constantly worrying about the tiny percent of unlucky bounces or fluke deflections then you're going to be a lot slower in your transitions and that means you're letting more routine shots get past you.

It was the D man who made the mistake of shooting the puck directly at the ref's skates from 10 feet away.

My goalie kid took your side on this one so I guess I was being too hard on the guy. Also, I was not aware that Binnington is a rookie and hasn't even had a full regular season's experience in the league. So nice work getting his team to the conference finals. It's a pretty big stage for him.

He was on the local comedy sports radio show the other morning, decent guy; apparently went to the Boston Conservatory. Now he sings at Bruins game and schleps beers upstairs during games.

I had band practice last night, so I recorded the game. I was able to avoid the score until I was driving home, right past the garden, where I forgot the live score was plastered over the side. I was able to watch the 3rd period without knowing the result though. I watched a bit of the first and second; don't think the final score was vindictive of the matchup. The whalercanes did seem to fall off towards the end. It's great the broooons got the W with Mcavoy out; he deserved the game, don't think it was intentional thought. Watchout for the next game with him back...apparently 3 on mother's day. Go B's.

Aside from marshmont, I don't find them any more dirty than the norm, within a standard deviation or two. Could just be my black and gold lenses though. One of the more interesting analyseees I heard of why the refs only gave McAvoy 2, instead of 5, is that they didn't want to repeat the vegas cluster and wanted to leave issuing the suspension to DoPS, whereas if they gave him 5 he gets the automatic suspension. Who knows though.
