I've attended MLB, NFL, and NHL games. Hockey players-in general-are the most approachable and accommodating to their fans. Also really entertaining in commercials.(Pasta-and others)
Not quite on the same scale of what Marner just did, but another example of hockey players being real...
When my son was around 8 or 9, he was a huge Teemu Selanne fan. The Ducks were in town so we went to the game. They had face-painting outside the arena and my son got the Ducks logo painted on both cheeks. As we later went down to the glass to watch warm-ups, Selanne was lined up right in front of us, and turned to look at the crowd. Amongst a sea of Coyotes jerseys stood one kid with his #8 Ducks jersey and facepaint. Selanne saw him, and nodded and winked at him. Needless to say, it made his day, having his idol acknowledge him. A simple two-second gesture that Selanne would never remember, but one that my son will never forget.
Another time the Yotes were having one of those meet-and-greet events for the fans and Shane Doan really went out of his way to spend a few minutes with my then 10 yr old nephew. He made sure he got everything autographed and all the pictures he wanted, and even sat and talked with him about hockey in general. Treated him as if he were the only kid there. Then did the same with the next kid, and the next one...Awesome guy, Doan is.
We were lucky to have him representing our franchise all those years.

All kinds of stories about hockey players doing this kind of thing. A few years back, I was at a Leafs - Habs game at the Bell Centre. Had real good seats just beside Leaf bench, and was the only Leaf jersey surrounded by Rouge Blanc et Blue. Dion Phaneuf, at the time the Leafs captain, noticed and delivered me a game puck over the glass during a stop in play, which to say the least was not well taken to by my neighbors that night.Not quite on the same scale of what Marner just did, but another example of hockey players being real...

This is a Minor League story. Many years ago, I was a mailman in the small town of Palmyra, PA. The next town down the road was Hershey. The Hershey Bears was an AHL team (and still is). Two of the Bears, Geoff Courtnall and Brad Palmer lived on my mail route, so we'd often say hello and talk a bit. (Courtnall later played for the Boston Bruins, and I'm not sure who else.)
One particularly icy day, I was delivering as usual. Put their mail in the box (on their porch), and proceeded back up the sidewalk to get to the next house. Then I hear a voice yelling, "Hey Jeff!". I stop and turn around to see who's calling me and my feet slide right out from under me and I fall on my ass rather unceremoniously. I look up and it's Geoff Courtnall calling me. He had a hockey stick signed by all of the Hershey Bears for my then 9-year-old son Josh. (Josh is now 43!)
As I get up off the ice, I say, "Damn Geoff! Of all the people in the world, I have to take a tumble in front of somebody who makes their LIVING on the ice!" We both got a good laugh out of it. But I thought that was a real classy thing for him to do, and my son was ecstatic.

Going to VGK/Panthers tonight at BB&T. My daughter will be wearing her Fleury Jersey; I'll be wearing this:

Panthers looked good 1st period. Then didn't for the rest of the game. Hadn't been to BB&T in over 10 years. Pretty nice facility and food and drink prices are more reasonable than Amalie. Bolts fans are a lot noisier-in a good way.
For whatever reason, they just do not play well when in the state of Florida, whether it's the Bolts or the Cats. Long history of losing in the Sunshine State. And unfortunately they did nothing to change that last night.
