Apparently the Panthers sole function was to tire out the Flyers for TB. Unfortunately the 'Ning didn't do the same to the Oilers.
Pens win!! Pens win!!
Crosby is back and Zucker is fitting in nicely. Matt Murray even had a good game, but the one goal he gave up was glove side high. Granted, he was feeling down, but it was.
With the Caps idle, that puts the Pens one point back.
Tuesday the Pens take a shot at one of the teams ahead of them in the standings, Toronto.These are the games they must win.
The top four teams in the East are starting to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the conference.

Might want to take another look at the standings Mike, Pens good play lately has them already ahead of the Leafs….but agree, both teams should look at this as an important game.

Vancouver?!? Not many saw that one coming, as he was pegged for an Eastern team according to all of the trade rumors. Just goes to show you why they're called 'rumors'.
Somewhat surprised the Kings traded him in-division, but perhaps with him being a UFA this summer maybe they don't think he'll stay there.

Sooo, lessee. Score a hat trick as the only goals in the outdoor game on Saturday, get sent packing on Monday. Makes sense to me.

That first Rust goal was a beauty, eh?
The Zucker goal was almost a carbon copy of the Rust goal, except there were three Leaf defenders and Andersen this time instead of two and Andersen against two Pens.
Meantime, Malkin gets sick in warmups, so in comes Anthony Angello (from Cornell, a former ECAC player) who scores his first NHL goal.
I think Toronto pretty much quit though after the second Pens goal.
Home and home with Toronto concludes Thursday. However, I thought a true home and home was back to back nights.
Shea Weber. Was that a miracle recovery? He was supposed to be out 4-6 weeks after an ankle injury, and ends up only missing six games.

Those Leaf "defenders" you allude to....hope they paid admission, they had a great view of the Pens goals. Would have been nice if they had at least tried to get in on some of those plays.
Maybe the Montreal Canadians and the Toronto Maple leafs should be combined. Between the two teams they might make one good one.

Well, that was a bit better. When they play like that there is no team that can beat them. But the real annoying thing is why they do not play like that all the time. And Mike, no soft high glove goals either, Murray played very well. Now, Go Kings Go!
Update: spoke too soon.So the Panthers apparently play better in CA than they do in FtL.
Pens trade Blandisi and another AHL player to Montreal for a couple of AHL forwards. Yawn.
Had to laugh at the comments on my Sports app from the Canadiens fans...ripping Bergevin for this 'major' deal that will help the Habs win the Cup. In 2038.

I did notice something very important during last nights game. It was almost a mirror image of the Tuesday night debacle. In each game, one of the teams played one of their better games of the year, with everyone doing their jobs and making it look ridiculously easy. But I said almost a mirror image, because there was one major difference. The Leafs just quit on Tuesday, standing around watching the Pens make great plays. But last night, with the game out of hand, even late in the third, there was no lack of effort from Pittsburgh, they were skating and pressing (especially Sid and Gino!) right to the end. Jackets seem to be fading rounding the final turn. They were playing way beyond themselves through the first 2/3 of the season but the injuries and inexperience are catching up. The goal tending was a surprise after letting Bobrovski walk, but they are playing to expectations now.
Backes was placed on waivers recently. His contract was pricey considering his contribution as a role player, and the Bruins are looking to get younger. Great locker room guy, but the B's already have a lot of veteran leadership. I read the trade was mutual and Backes assisted by loosening his no trade list. Good move on both ends.Backes to Anaheim?Maybe you Bruin fans understand this.
