They made a game out of it, though.
That second period was a downright siege by the Lightning. Going to be a good series.
Yeah, we probably have different desires for the winner, but they match up well. And, due to my schedule-or lack thereof-I'll be able to see every game.
Varlamov played fantastically in goal for the Isles. The Isles owned the 1st period. Flyers were lucky to come out of the 1st only down 1-0. They can thank Carter Hart for keeping them in it.
Flyers played a solid 2nd period. Outplayed the Isles (with the exception of Varlamov). 3rd period again belonged to the Isles. If the Flyers "big guns" don't start contributing, it's gonna' be a short series for them. Giroux, Konecny, and Couturier have done nothing. Hayes has had some solid chances, but couldn't finish. vanRiemsdyk appears to be finished. He's been a healthy scratch several times, and justifiably so. They picked a bad time to all go silent.
All that said, the Isles played with a purpose, and look like the better team right now. I'm still hopeful the Flyers can get it together, but I'm not overly optimistic. I'm hoping that based on this first game, the Isles think this series is in the bag and get outplayed in Game 2. If the Flyers can even it up, anything can happen. But if they go down 2 games to none, stick a fork in them..

So, Rutherford rents Kapanen to the Leafs for a few years to let him develop, and in return gets Kessel (and 2 Cups). Then gets Kapanen back for prospects when he is finally turning into a good player....
Boston/TB on at 1900 Eastern. Based on Game 1, I think Tampa's going to come out loaded for bear... which is wise, given Boston's team name.

For Bruins fans ya gotta love 63. For the rest of us he's an annoying-but talented-little _____. Damn good game.
Not a Bruins fan at all, but I gotta tip my cap to a good hockey play no matter by who. Kuraly had an incredible shift, staying out long past his change, knocked to the ice at least twice, yet recovered and set up Marchand with an absolute perfect pass, reminiscent of Gretzky's or Crosby's playmaking prowess. And props to Pastrnak for his steal, keeping the play alive when it looked like TB had control. That was one for the highlight reels for sure.

My son was saying there goes another first-rd pick traded away by JR, but I countered that we're getting a proven 20-goal scorer, for a 15th overall pick may or may not ever pan out. And with the Crosby/Malkin window still precariously open you need to get a player for today, not 3-4 years down the road. We Pens fan know that the eventual rebuild will be painful and likely a long one, but you can't start that rebuild while 87 & 71 are still producing at a high level. I may feel differently in five years but today I'm fine with the trade.
Kapanen has terrific speed, and lots of offensive upside. His defense approved greatly over the last two years as well. Think he will fit in quite nicely on that team.Spoken like a true cynic!

Can't say that I am unhappy to see Kappy go! Yes, he has speed and yes, he has gotten better since coming to the Leafs, but I don't think there is much more upside to Kappy then what we have seen to date.
Watching him in the playoffs showed me that he will never be a smart player. His best asset is his speed, but he hardly ever used it. Floating, yah he's got that down, but contributing every shift, not going to happen.
He suggested that he would take on a more physical role this year and did hit people more, but that's not his game. Speed speed speed was his game, he just doesn't have the hockey smarts to be more than he is right now... IMHO.
I suspect we will see more moves as well...
