Didn't know about that Center Ice issue...glad I cancelled before last year's shortened season and didn't renew for this season. The NHL really messed up by signing that big deal with ESPN, IMO. The lack of games on non-streaming networks is disgusting. Hope you're happy, Bettman. I'm usually in the guy's corner but on this one I'm not.

I kinda figgered it might be like the "old" days when ESPN covered multiple games per night/week. Didn't think about the streaming-which I don't do at all-or the fact that my area gets Panthers games(yea!)but doesn't carry the Lightning games(crap!). I get my 'Bolts fix on NHL tonight's look ins-maybe.

Between my espn+ membership and my cable package with bally sports I get all the predators games. Quite a bit cheaper than center ice and I get alot more with espn+ (ncaa football, ufc, f1, etc).

I can see where those would be annoyed with the streaming package. I think its great and I've never gotten to watch so much hockey for so cheap. Im on vacation in the mountains and just watched the predators take out the kings due to the flexibility of the streaming. I used to get center ice, but a whole years worth of espn+ subscription is cheaper than center ice, plus as stated you get alot more than just hockey.

But you can't record or fast forward through the games on Hulu or ESPN+ can you? I don't usually get a chance to watch anything early in the evening. But I do record shows a lot and watch them later. That's the good thing about Center Ice. Maybe I'm wrong though. I just recently got Hulu and Disney+ to watch the McCartney 1,2,3 and Beatles Get Back documentaries.

with ESPN+ you can. I pause games and rewind them. They also archive some of the games so you can replay them. There is an on demand section. Looks like it goes back one week.

As Paul has stated, you indeed can fast forward on espn+. I only watch the games on demand as I work graveyards and am never awake when they are on. I get through games quick fast forwarding through commercials and intermissions.intermission.

Edit: I should clarify you can't fast forward if the games are live, only on the on-demand games.

One of my daughter's friends is in her 20s and apparently only has experience watching programs that she records and then watches later.

She was visiting recently while we were watching a hockey game and she asked me why we didn't fast forward through the commercials and the period breaks.

She didn't understand the answer until I explained the nature of a "live" sports broadcast.

She's not a dumb person, by any standard, but she'd just never experienced it and it never occurred to her that people actually watched events on TV that take place in real time.

I've gotten to that point. I'm so old that it was never an option when I was young. But now I'm spoiled. I despise sitting through commercial breaks, half-time, between period breaks, etc..

I remember how incredulous my daughter was when I told her that TV used to be limited to 4 channels of vhf (CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS) plus a couple of local uhf channels, and that all programming went "off the air" from midnight until 6am.

When I said that if you didn't live in or near a large city, then you had to put up a huge antenna on a tall pole in order to see anything on TV, and often with reception so bad you could hardly see the picture through all the static, she looked at me like I had a third arm growing out of the side of my head.

Evgeni Malkin returned from injury with his season debut against Anaheim with two goals and an assist. Jeff Carter also scored a couple in the 4-1 victory.

The Pens have traditionally been flat in California, only going 2-7 over the past five years. And the Ducks are much improved this season, so I wasn't expecting a win, but definitely glad to get one.

Tuukka's back!

I'm not terribly enthused about it (I'm a Swayman guy), but he had a solid effort tonight for the win against the Flyers. It was a way more entertaining game than it looked like it'd be, too. Some long 5-on-3 kills, a comeback, a hat trick, a decent fight, a near-brawl, and Philly pulled Hart with well over three minutes still to play. Great finish.

On the downside, the game was broadcast on ESPN. I'm... not a fan.

Nice. Pens in Vegas, down 3-0 to the Golden Knights after one period. They come out early in the second and knock in a couple, then finish off with three in the third. Five unanswered goals in the visitor's barn. And the fact that it came against Lehner makes it even sweeter.

Reminds me of the 2017 Cup-winning team in that regard...they were never out of too many games even when trailing by a couple.

FWIW, that was only the second time in team history that Vegas blew a 3-goal lead to lose a game.

So far, the return of Malkin has not disrupted the Pens flow. I dig it.
