Seattle always seems to pop up in discussions of NBA moves or expansion. Hopefully someday.
I've never been a basketball fan. But I was glad for OKC to get and then prove we will support a major franchise in any pro sport. And I have to admit that winning the championship with such a special group of guys was fun.
I gave up on the NBA a year or so after the Sonics left town. Now, I don't even pay attention to it.
I know my situation is not unique, but let me tell how crushing of a feeling that is when a sports team you followed for much of your life ups and leaves town because of some greedy millionaires. At the same time, it was good for me to stop and realize I was investing way too much energy and emotions into people who don't give two craps about me.

Nice to know not much has changed in the NHL since I stopped paying as much attention. I checked ESPN tonight and this headline greeted me making me feel right at home...

Reaves' fight with Rempe fires up Sharks in win
Matt Rempe and Ryan Reaves had the Madison Square Garden crowd buzzing early Thursday night when they dropped the gloves and slugged it out for more than 20 seconds in a game the Sharks won in overtime.

I know Reaves only played one season in Pittsburgh, but I liked him and he was the tough guy they needed. But alas, Rutherford back then was in pursuit of some speedy team thinking that would win it all for them after getting beat by the Caps in the playoffs for the first time ever. The Pens have not won a playoff series since trading Reaves away.
Also worth noting, this was the same time Mr. Glove Side High showed up and swindled Rutherford into making the dumbest decision of his professional career.

Blackhawks hope watch: alive, though I got that feeling nobody's really buying it looking at the schedule yesterday. ESPN puts the odds next to each game, and Chicago having the worst odds of any team playing on the night felt just like most days the last two seasons, even though Tampa had the worse record coming in. No respect... but if they can sustain the being slightly above NHL 500 thing, they'll earn it.
Oh, come on, Mike! A fourth-line guy who played maybe 8-9 minutes a game and rarely fought is hardly the reason the Pens haven't won a playoff series since. (They didn't win a playoff series with him, either.) Yeah, his presence on the bench probably did have some influence on opponents who would have thought twice about roughing up the superstars, but in reality, he was not a factor. Blame Sullivan for not playing him more, but you greatly overestimate his contributions. There's a reason he's on his fifth team in the past six years.

Sure there's more that goes into the mix at that time, and I'm not saying having Reaves on the team would've brought them more Cups. I just thought it was interesting they haven't won a series since then and then you realize how long it's been. Rutherford didn't know what he was doing anymore so making trades became his past time. The lack of winning wasn't because of a lack of talent on the roster.

Agree on the Rutherford assessment. He made some superb trades that won them two Cups in '16 & '17. Almost all of the trades after those two championships were embarrassingly bad...the Hagelin trade started the downfall, and the fact that he'd completely run out of assets to trade didn't help.
