Noble Amps Preamp

What else are you putting onto it?

For me, I generally prefer to have a single row of pedals rather than two rows because I hate having to step over the front row to get to the back. I ran a Jr. for a long time and had risers for the back row which worked out fairly well.

With a single row you're limited to what you can fit on the board without it becoming 4' long.

I don't mind the step over as long as there is ample space. I can adjust to about anything, plus the junior is tilted, so it's easy. Only thing I can't adjust to is running out of space, which is what happened on the Nano.Additionally, I did not have the Noble on the Nano at all, and that just started to seem counterintuitive.

Chain will be something like this : Boss TU-2>OC-2>Southampton 5th Gear>Fuzz for the first row. Then on top an MXR M82 filter>mini Tremolo>mini Chorona Chorus> Noble. The boss TU-2 daisy chain can power the extra pedal or two.

You'll definitely need at least a Jr with that many pedals. You may want to have a look at the Novo line as well, sort of an updated line from the Classic (or original) series. The Novo 18 is a little bigger than the Jr.

I did the measurements and I think I can get away with a Jr., and have space to spare. I should have mentioned my fuzz is a mini pedal as well. So hopefully I won't need anything bigger. I will check out the Novo though - thanks!

Sofor those that had a Noble preamp and decided to sell, can you explain to me why you came to that decision?

A lack of A/B references is getting me hesitant to spend the money on one of these. I agree everything I hear sounds good, but its anyone's guess as to what is actually going on without reference.

What are you looking for with a device like this one? It's a tube preamp so it really delivers in the studio. It makes mixing a bassline 1,000 times easier for you or the engineer. Not sure how you plan to use it, so that may not be as important.

Any of you guys using OD's of any type with your Noble... Compressors??
I'm interested in a Blueberry bass OD, the videos sound pretty nice to me. Some have said it sounds "dark" I'm not sure what that really means.

As for comps... I have two.. an MXR bass comp, thay i haven't used sinc getting my Seymour Duncan Studio Bass comp.

Ideas, suggestions appreciated

I have driven myself crazy doing research for this VS REDDI VS _____. I am after a good tube sound coloration, nothing like a hard driven amp, but just a nice sweetener, and everything I read here leads me to believe that the Noble will deliver. The issue I have is that every other comparable option has A/B clips available while the Noble has only one that I found and it's very short, plus he is using quite a bit of the EQ.

Anyway, I always research and go obsessive mode over any purchase. I just got new IEMs that ran me $800 so I'm just coming off a nice long OCD session. I don't mean to come off as a nay sayer or anything like that, I actually started my YouTube channel to fix my own problem with demos of stuff I couldn't find, or wasn't done properly (i.e.: too much talking)

I have decided to go ahead and purchase one, I think that decision was already made a while ago when I started selling off my pedalboard, but now I am funded and ready. And I'll be sure to make an A/B demo available! Haha!

I appreciate all the posts here, it has made it an easy decision.

Bought from a TB'er. Will be here Saturday!

Does anyone run this along with an SFX Micro Thumpinator? Would the Micro Thumpinator be redundant with the low cut switch function?

I would run two basses through this. A Fodera 5 string (E-C) and a 6 string acoustic with piezo pickups (no magnetic pickups) made by Harvey Citron.

Here was my response to this same question in May:

Over the last 6 months (now 8 months) I've experimented with, and without, the Noble's HPF in live settings only. I've been a dedicated microThumpinator user for quite a while, but I suspended use during the first 6 months of using & getting to know the Noble. However, its back on my board now - and as the microThump cuts below 30HZ... whether it is, or isn't, in the signal chain hasn't really been evident. The mT just very transparently does its thing. I have a season of outdoor gigs coming up where I'll be cranking the rig a bit more, and I've added an Octavbre Mini to the signal chain, so the mT is back in. To my ear it really helps the octave pedal track much better, and it cleans up the power-sucking lower frequencies that are not needed sonically- and also protects against over excursion of the cones.

The Noble's HPF affects the tone and it allows you to really have some cool options to get a vintage sound. The microThumpinator does not noticeably affect tone. I'll be using both - mT always on, and Noble HPF in for specific songs (along with a quick eq adjustment)

All that is to say (IMO) - it depends on how you use it - as the cutoff freq is much different. It sure hasn't been needed, pre-octave pedal, at the lower volumes that I've been playing at to clean up the signal, and protect my speaker cones from over-excursion. (Hope this helps)

With the Noble's HPF in or out... Best sound ever

Finally got her all wired up last night!!

And underneath...

Wiring isn't as tidy as I'd like, but it works. And still room for the addition of an SFX Micro Thumpinator.. due to the experience of @ExaltBass .
I'll be able to use just the Nano in church beginning in August, but this tiny collection sounds Stunningly fantastic through my Carvin DCM1000L into either my fEARful 12/6, or Fearless F210.
My Mesa D800, that I love has become backup.
I'm not as experienced as most of you guys, but as everyone, I had a sound in my head... this gives it to me too easily. No more frustration, and knob twisting... More time playing and wallowing in the awesomeness. Great gear from the get go makes the learning experience much more enjoyable.

No OD for me but I use the Markbass tube compressor and love it. Both the compressor and the Noble will growl if you put clean boost in front of them. I have done it for experimentation but in mostly keep the tone clean. Playing with the boost is a bit of fun and also serves to demonstrate that there are real tubes on board and they will do what tubes do when pushed hard.

UPDATE...
As stated earlier, I wanted add a Micro Thumpinator... just saw one pop up in the classifieds :):hyper:
Happier camper!!
@Doner Designs .. after wiring my Nano last night, first time with the Seymour Duncan, I like the results even more. I can bump the level on the comp to push the Noble a bit more
Now just waiting on the mT
