Noble Amps Preamp

What would you guys recommend using to have 2 basses going into the noble? I want to have the ability to play a fretted and fretless bass live without having to unplug between songs.

If both basses have similar output levels (i.e., both are passive, or both are active), then a simple A/B box would probably work. Otherwise, you'll need something with A/B switch AND level controls to balance them out. Quite a range of solutions out there from $50 to over $500. Just depends on what you need or don't need.

FWIW, I've been using a Radial Bassbone to switch/balance between my various basses. Also has a boost, effects loop, some EQ, and a DI built in.

Thanks for the info. Both basses active. Don't think I need an eq. Not going to pay $500. I want something simple and small.

I use something like this one (I had mine made for me, because I needed a smaller format... same idea however) [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

+1 on the Radial. If you want a small AB switcher, the One-Control ones are great.

Loop-Master also makes some great ones:

I realize I posted the wrong models, the One-Control has two outputs not two inputs, and the Loop-Master is an ABY, but both companies make great products, I own similar switches from both and have had good experiences. If you have different levels (which you said you didn't) here's another wrong model, the micro mixer from Loop Master. I set it and forget it (it's underneath my board).

I think some can be run in reverse. But I want small like the one control.

"The Minimal AB Box can also be used as an input selector. For example if you regularly switch guitars while playing live, plug two guitars into the two outputs and run from the input to your amp. That being said the inputs and outputs can be used in both directions. "

So yes, the One-Control AB Box will work as an input selector for two basses

Anyone using a Hartke LH1000 or LH500 for a power amp with the Noble?

Looks like @jasesng has tried it ...
Just received the preamp today & took it to a venue that I play at on an ad-hoc.. Written thoughts to come!

LH1000 using Noble Amps Preamp click on the attached file (image) ...

I'd be interested in how that worked also. I had a LH1000 for awhile. Good amp for the money. Loved the headroom!

So ... question for anyone who has run the Noble thru both a power amp such as Crest Prolite and also a Jule M700, through good cabs. What would be the difference in performance? I'm looking at picking up a Noble for both DI at church (pretty much anything there) and also thru an amp for classic rock tone. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Currently running Ampeg PF20T pre/Crest Prolite amp thru Fender Neo 410s, but looking at Barefaced BB2s, driven by either Noble/Crest Prolite or Noble/M700.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi there Ed,

No experience with the ever popular Crest prolite(although I am sure someone here has used both the power amps you have mentioned).

I have used my Noble with the Jule M700 through two Baer ML-112 cabs with excellent results obtaining "classic rock tone(s)".

The M700 is designed to sit on just about any, if not all, custom cabs out there... imho the Baer cabs and Jule M700 look sweet together, and they sound way better than they even look!

Sweet combination! Hiw do you like that stack arrangement? I've only tried the standard vertical and horizontal arrangement. What advantage do you hear?
It is the best of both worlds!

My observations in a nutshell which may or may not align with yours:
Horizontal stacking provides better coupling with the stage, providing a thicker tone.
Vertical stacking provides a more focused tone, great for venues that double as echo chambers.

The matrix or "El Stack" shown in the pic is my standard set up though, used 99% of the time. I find the bottom cab creates the generally desired coupling with the stage, while putting the top cab upright sets that 6" driver closer to earshot for slightly more clarity.
Try it out and let me know what you think!

BTW My rig looks like yours! This is no mistake!
You played one of the big roles in influencing these gear purchases believe it or not. So thank you for sharing!
The NOBLE rocks!

Thanks for he kind words :) I'll be sure try that configuration out. Unfortunately, my remaining August gigs had to be cancelled :bored: on account of a work conflict the guitarist had. 2 in Sept still. I've tried my setup going direct into the power section on my Genzler, and also into my Crown MicroTech 600 in bridged mono. The Noble seems to like any power amp, and pairs so well with the Baers.
