Noble Amps Preamp

I do opposite. Ill have to post my new board as it is pretty complete now. I'm running a Pigtronix compressor which has a blend and it's pretty much always on and dialed in just to lengthen the tail of the note. The reason I like it before the Octave pedal is it feeds a more even signal into it (OC-2) and as a result the pedal is less glitchy.

I'm going to have to try this.. I've tried two different Octaves now.. an Aguilar Octamizer, and just a couple of days ago an MXR BOD...
Really liked the Octamizer, but it was glitchy on the G string in the upper registers..sent it back..
MXR did the same, but not as bad.. was going to send it back as well...
More tests to be had!

Also... anyone using a Solid Gold FX Beta?
If so, how do you like it? I got one to try, love the mild OD... it just seems so dark sounding, even with the tone dimed

Are you sure you don't have some fret buzz on the G string?

I've found octave pedals including the octabvre, OC2 and octamizer can be glitchy between D and F on the gstring. This is usually the spot where you can get wolf tones. I try to play higher up the neck to avoid the problem.

I should have mentioned that I can't hear any wolf tones on any of my basses on the G string. It's just when using octave pedals that I notice this.

Cheers

Ben

Hello guys! So this is my first post here on talk bass. I've been really thinking of getting a noble preamp but ive been hesitant to order one without running my bass through it. My main bass is and MTD Kingston artist made in korea. It has the aguilar obp 1-18v preamp and a bartolini MM style pick up. Has anyone ever used a pickup and preamp configuration like that before with a noble. I was also just thinking of ordeirng it and if i dont like to sell it. They seem to be going quick here on talkbass. i appreciate yalls thoughts. Thanks

I don't have that exact combination, but I've played active basses through the Noble. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

No Sir, thought of that

Cool. I ran into that once. Not trying to turn this into a octave pedal thread, but for live use, I really like the lowly OC-3, Guitar input, Poly mode with the range straight up. If you can find an OC-3 used cheap, give it a shot. It tracks perfectly and for live stuff, I think I prefer tracking over tone. Recording, you can have a "do over" if things glitch badly. We now return you to the Noble thread, already in progress.

I got one. I don't use it much. It is a very dark OD.

I was working on some stuff last night and decided to do the HPF engage and the bass boost trick. Boosted the bass to 12. Man, I loved it. The P tone gets modernized and smoothed out a little bit and retains it's mids and the J gets a ton of low mids back into the tone. For the J I like the treble knob around 10 and the P, I keep it at 8.

Ill mess with it some more, but I'm really liking it a lot. The way the octave pedal interacts with it set like that is freaking sweet.
