Noble Amps Preamp

I believe your preferences you are describing are relative to a preamp you are going to use on a pedal board, no? I had stated earlier that I am mainly looking for the tuner out/mute features because the preamp I am looking for would sit on top of my Demeter Minnie 800. On top of the cab. Different thing going on. Yes, the current design serves those who are putting the unit on a pedal board. I'm not questioning that. I don't use a pedal board. I just want a small format preamp.

And, the mute switch is typically on the side of the box next to the input jack. Yes, I realize that feature would make zero sense on a pedal board. But, it would not be in the way either.

Cool. Rock on.

I'm off for a tour of Japan on Thursday and can't wait to see how my Noble goes. It's so nice to able to send such a great tone to front of house in such a small convenient package. I don't have to sacrifice tone due to baggage limits etc.

I'll report back when I'm home.

Cheers

Ben

Japan is 100VAC. The DC current is listed as 450mA versus 700mA with US 110VAC. If you use the power supplies and have something that draws a lot of current like a Line 6 M5, that could be an issue. I'd bring a OneSpot as a "just in case". I was just looking at the specs yesterday and remembered that part. With "normal" pedals you should be fine.

Thanks Rich

I should be OK. I don't actually use the Noble for its pedal powering capabilities. Because I have a small and a big pedal board I need to use the Noble with both so it's standing alone. Maybe I need to buy another so I can mount them on both boards

Awesome! Have a great tour. Pics when you get back!

Just finished up my first weekend out using the Noble. Got plenty of compliments on the tone. 'Huge' 'Full' and 'powerful' were the top adjectives I heard.

Being that I had new IEMs as well, I was able to bump a little low end and hear more bass through my mix rather than high end attack where it usually sits. Sounded nice and solid in my ears.

Hearing our live broadcast playback I found I got lost in the mix a little when playing high up the neck, I think due to pushing the bass rather than flats and letting the mids shine through, but it could very well just have been a bad mix. The lower notes sounded great though.

Very happy with it. Our tech lead was happy. So good deal.

I just recorded a tune with some notes up around the 15th fret and they sound great. Granted, a studio recording is different to playing live but using the HPF with the bass slightly boosted really seems
to work well. The trade of is that you lose a little something below E.

I'll see how it goes live over the next couple of weeks.

Nice. What bass did you use? That usually has the most impact on upper register tone.

The good thing about the Noble is if you are coming out of a PA with a lot of Subs, you can engage the HPF and retain a lot of clarity in the mix.
It was with my Warwick Streamer which typically doesn't ever get lost in the mix. But this particular weekend was a first for a lot of gear. Noble, Cali76-TX, and DR Fat Beams in place of Elixirs I have used for years and years. I know I didn't get lost in the house mix because I felt it all the way through. Also in my mix I heard everything and everything sounded great. I'm leaving this one to a bad broadcast mix, not bad but just not ideal for high note noodling.

Next weekend I'll be setting the EQ flat and see how that sounds. I don't like the particular feel of the HPF and bass boosted, as mentioned it does lose some oomph below the low E, but that's something I'll experiment with as well to see how it feels in the mix.

How about a video review then? ;)

Tried my Noble through the power section of an Aguilar DB750. DAMN, I DON'T WANNNA CARRY A 42 lbs. AMP!!! To answer your question, STRAIGHT VINTAGE.

Good to know. Now I really can't wait!!! I paid for the rush build. Hoping to get it by Aug 11 so the first time I use it will be in stadium.

I continue to follow this product, as I have from the beginning. I actually have a Demeter Minnie 800D for which this preamp is very close to what I am looking for. BUT, there are two aspects of the topology that aren't making it for my purposes. No tuner out. No mute button.

The preamp is clearly tailored for use on a pedal board. That's great for pedal board folks. I don't use one and strongly prefer not to have my signal going through a chain of switches and stuff any more than necessary. No offense intended, just not my thing.

So, I'll keep watching. Need the tuner out and mute button.
Easy enough to put a tuner in line, like I do, and subsequently this very tuner is my mute switch as well. This would be about as far from a "chain of switches and stuff" compared to most!

This unit is proven useful in just about all situations, live or studio, by itself or on a pedal board, and bassists have utilized in their own ways that suit them like few others can. I think you are missing(and perhaps me, too) the point which is truly how amazing it SOUNDS. You'll likely forget about that mute button very quickly once you hear it.:woot:

So I've just finished my tour of Japan where my Noble got a real workout. It just performed flawlessly time after time and really saved me a few times.

I had a gig at one festival with no bass amp so it was the Noble straight to the monitors - there was my sound. I also had an unexpected radio gig and my Noble meant I could still use my sound. Awesome

Unfortunately I don't have any photos as my camera stopped working but I'm sure I'll get some soon. This preamps not going anywhere.

Cheers

Ben

I've had my Noble for almost 9 months now, and I've never regretted my purchase decision. It has performed well in live shows, church, and a little recording too. Always gets me complements, and performs incredibly well. Still happy... perhaps even happier as time goes on. :)

Thanks @Jack Roan!
