Noble Amps Preamp

My thoughts were : Noble + Empress ParaEQ + tuner + wireless on a pedalboard (possibly a boost like 5th gear) and maybe Octave or Delay.

That's kind of the approach I've adopted - same front-end for everything, then change up cabs as dictated by gig.

I have a DYI board with a BassBone v2 (for switching between basses - electrics or upright), a tuner, a Cali76 CBC, and the Noble. Can use this by itself for recording or gigs where backline is provided.

I'll add my Acoustic Image Clarus Series4 head and the MAS-45 cab for pit orchestra gigs or small venue band gigs. For bigger gigs, I'll add the MAS-109 used as a sub. Anything bigger (gig-wise) will have a large PA and my rig works fine as stage monitor / backline.

So, other than the variations in cabinet voicings (and venues), my sound remains pretty consistent. And so I spend less time fiddling with knobs and more time wishing the guitar player would turn down.

I've seen some of you guys mention Nobles with alternate DC output voltages (like 12V, etc). How does one go about ordering one like that? I don't see that option when ordering.

I see some of you are running the Noble in conjunction with a Mesa D800/+. Is everyone bypassing the preamp, or running it straight into the input? My 800+ sounds great and has tons of eq flexibility. I was just hoping to impart a bit of tube harmonics and warmth to the tone. Anyone tried this? Also, has anyone compared a Noble to a Shaw Tube Injection?

Ive ran it both ways with my D800. Straight to the input, obviously you get the extra EQ options.. but I prefer going to the AUX IN and just having the glorious perfection that is my Noble
But for quick plug and play, I absolutely love my Mesa D800

Hi Noble men and women,
I'm back here on this forum to redeem myself. I was once (or twice) in Utopia when I had a Noble Preamp DI. I sold the unit(s) I had in order to raise funds for other gear that I "needed" at the time. Many months have passed, many gigs with high end DIs and great Preamps as well, but none like @Jack Roan 's Noble Preamp DI. Seriously guys, no Ampeg PF, REDDI, Monique, multi tube Channel strips, Aguilar heads, or even UA gear did it for me. Noble in my ears is the winner.

There are many factors that for me and many other bassists make this the perfect pre/DI in their signal chain. I'm just glad I'm back on the wagon! I can't wait to start using it again.

Lately I've experimented with how to track the acoustic bass guitar. None of the usual recording books / resources cover this topic. Too bad because with the right tracking technique, you can get amazing tone from an ABG. This video, How to Record Acoustic Bass Guitar presents principles and comparative demos of tracking it with:

• Acoustic – with microphone
• Pickup – straight into DI
• Pickup – via tube preamp / DI
• Cabinet – with microphone
• Blend – tube DI & mic’d cabinet

Obviously, the "tube preamp / DI" used in the video is the Noble. The demos help compare how it sounds to a perfectly clean, good quality DI. It also provides an idea of how the Noble tubes and circuit affect acoustic bass tone. All the videos on Jack's site are focused on electric bass - particularly the P bass.

My Noble is still blowing my mind every time I use it, easily the best gear I have ever own in any part of my life, it is just so perfect.
I'm buying a bass amp top and am looking for a as cheap as possible amp in the 600-1000w range, whose pre-amp I will bypass totally with the noble. Do you guys have any recommandations? And then feed this amp top into the marvelous boxes of Unicorn Bass 210+4x4, which is very very power hungry and for good reason as they are extremely loud.

I use a Kustom, it is 500 watts, but there may be a 1,000 watt version. Love it. It sounds fantastic and is inexpensive. Also easy to bypass the preamp on it by using the effects return.

Take a look at the Quilter Labs Bass Block - high-quality 800w power amp in a small package - $599 street price (new). Also has a preamp with some EQ contouring, if needed.

In gigging situations, I pair mine with a Genzler Magellan 800, which is so transparent that I run through the pre. Flat, it is as clean as bypass to my ears, and I like having the drive and contour options.

Most of the time it is at church, and I go direct.

No personal experience, but the Hartke TX600 appears to be well liked and will get you into the ballpark. It has its own tube, though.
