Nordstrand big singles... experiences?

I just got and installed my set of Big Singles yesterday. While I won't have a chance to gig with them until the 29th, my first impression of them is really, really good. I hate to use statements like "these are the best pickups I've ever had," but the really are. They just sound fantastic. Very big for a single coil, and a sort of muted top end - like anything in the string noise frequency range is subdued. Me likee!

Fingerstyle, the BSingles really bring out the dynamics in my playing like no other pickups I've ever used. Where you pluck the strings makes a huge difference. You can go from fat, tight and midrangy back by the bridge to giant boom over the bottom of the neck.

They have a great slap sound, which I might use more now because of these pickups. Not very sizzly, but that's great in my opinion.

The low end and midrange is very pronounced. Very nice growl.

I guess I've come to realize after trying out almost every major type/brand of pickup out there, that I have come to love the sound of single coils. These sound fantastic.

Someone please talk me out of getting a set for my brand new USA 5 string Jazz bass...

So I'm still contemplating wether or not to install a tone pot with the big singles... you think I'd need it? I play metal with rounds and though I never boost treble, I never cut it either... I have emg's now...

i hit it with 1000grit paper & totally took off the high gloss down to the color,, then brought the color back up with rubbing compound on a scotchbrte pad, so it would be a rough satin,,, if you use a regular pad with the compound, it will bring it up to a gloss finish on the color, but not a high gloss... i hit it with a touch of pastewax today to protect the color somewhat... the cool thing is, i just touch it up with scotchbrite & it looks great

Nice look! I'm going to have to try that...

can you have a nice marcus miller slap sound?????? but more punchy, i´m very intersted but i just need to know how good they slap i´d like a punchy and sharp slap can big singles give me that sound????? honestly

i'm not much of a slapper, & couldn't really say if they'd get the exact MM slap tone... but... these Singles are the definitive single coil on "roids tone period. there ain't a bigger sc tone out there... packed with punch & i'm sure slap tone for days...

i'm running mine passive,, i'm sure if you'd run the Singles with like an East pre... fagetabouttit....

Nino Valenti knows alot about Nordstrand pickups. He uses them in his basses. I asked him what I needed to get the tone I wanted and he told me. Hit him up for some information.

Well, they are attached to a Nordy VJ5... three months or so for the bass and pickups. Not sure about the timeline on pickups alone.

KJ, I see you got your new nordy - great looking bass. Can I ask you how you find the treble output with the big singles? I've seen a few posts about them being dark, I'm wondering specifically if they pick up much fret growl/zing when you dig in a bit? Cheers.

I pulled the stock Bart pups and installed Big Singles in this Roscoe LG3000... it rocks! I have been buying and selling lots of basses in search of a righteous 4 banger to compliment my Benavente Vintage Vortex 5 and this bass does it!

The Big Singles brightened the dark Bart tone, fattened up the bottom, taut midrange growl on the bridge pup, warm full tone on the neck pup. The combo of Roscoe woods, Nordstrand pups and the Bart pre punch crazy hard.

Crank the volume on your amp, keep a light touch until you need some power, then dig in for an easy doubling of perceived volume and you'll love the Big Singles.
