Pretty much proving there will never be another Prince.

Well, I spent the afternoon digging out the garden and getting ready for spring planting. With that complete, I had a couple beers and admired it for a while to let my old man muscles and joints relax, then I took a hot shower and spent most of the rest of the evening reading Churchill's history of the Second World War.
So, I guess I missed some football game or something? No wonder the hardware store was so quiet earlier.

Yeah, Cable Guy wasn’t really a bad commercial. I feel like had it been on its own, it would have been funny.
I guess I was more or less taking everything together as the “theme” of the night. Putting all the references and throw backs together in such a short window, I w kept finding myself thinking “wow they’re really pushing this aren’t they?”
Just seeing the list of performers was enough to encourage me to skip it.
The industry is getting really good at masking prerecorded performances with offline live takes and other tricks. But from what I could tell that was all live, or at least the vocals were.
I appreciate that, as I'm not really interested in watching starlets dance around and act like they're singing over a recording like they're in their bedroom in front of a mirror with a hairbrush for a mic.
Given the way the industry went last year, the smart money would have been on the halftime show being Dua Lipa, which would absolutely have been a worthless lipsynced piece of stupidity. What we got last night was way way better.

I was entertained for sure. Made for TV because people along the other side of the stadium, other than watching the video monitors at the stadium, were cut out of the performance. I had to laugh initially. The map of Compton on the palm right at the beginning. I drove through Compton soon after the Rodney King riots (traveled out there for work). There wasn't much left of the main drag. Most stores burned to the ground. I think they changed Compton's name to Rancho Dominguez, or something like that. Perhaps the cars with locations highlighted were pre or post fires?? Anyhow, I couldn't like MJ, but I thought the guys brought it. And there is still hope for me.....I could have been one of those fat guys in the boxes.
One of the best halftime show IMHO. Kendrick was superb. Snoop looked like he was having the most fun of anyone in attendance. I really liked it!

The show gave me the vibe of when Prince played Superbowl with that level of production!

I dunno, I'll have to go back and watch, but I thought we might be hearing Paak's playing there live - if not then he did a killer job matching fills, etc. Harder to tell w bass or guitar...

i thought it was a great show --- tons of energy! hip hop is more mature now than rock was when i was coming up...and you don't have to be a die-hard fan of either to appreciate the artists that make both genres valuable/real.
The NFL blew it by never having Rush for the Half Time Show while Neil was still with us. Now that, in my insignificant opinion, was a high energy band.
Vocals were live on the broadcasted show too, but probably backed by the recording earlier that day.
After nipple-gate they do add a delay in the broadcast.
