NPB: Temple Audio Design Duo 17

Solid advice, would you say I decrease the risk if I at least have a lead connected when the board is powered down?

I mean, just thinking realistically have the lead connected always would be tough while transporting. But if I should say, first thing I do when setting up is connect a cable to the output before I plug in the power supply I can go with that.

To decrease risk I would advise the opposite: When you power up the board ensure there are 1/4" plugs inserted in your Temple jack(s) designated as "Output". Powering down does not present an issue.

Just wanted to do a quick update here from my posts from last December.

After getting into gigging season, I realized that I'm still getting a varying amount of hum using the regular 4 way patch depending on the venue. I also recently started doing a remote recording session for some friends using my board, and the amount of hum that ended up in the recording was what I would consider excessive, so I finally emailed Temple to inquire about a fix. They acted like they hadn't heard of the problem, which seems doubtful, but did ask me to forward over some videos for them to check out, which I have. I'm just waiting for a reply.

In the meantime, I also ordered their buffered 4 way patch bay to see if that might take care of the humming. That should arrive next week sometime.

I used dual lock at first, but was having issues on occasion with a couple of the pedals breaking loose from the board in transit, so I ended up grabbing some of the plates. They're holding the pedals on much better than the dual lock was. I'm wondering if the holes lessened the integrity of the adhesive on the dual lock.

This board is pretty much set, so I doubt I'll have to worry too much about getting the plates off in the near future or moving anything around.

Its a passive jack, I'm not sure what would make it hum either...

There are several mentions in this thread of hum with a passive bass, and you can find even more reports of humming issues with the passive 4 way patch on various internet guitar forums.

My main bass is a 76 P with an EMG GZR pickup, and the control cavity has been professionally shielded. It's dead quiet in every other configuration I've used it on. The patch also hums with my 73 J bass with Nordstrand 70's wind pickups. It doesn't hum with my 99 Stingray 5.

would love to see proper trouble shooting.

Plug in line 2 bass to amp - no hum good

line 1 to connector, line 2 to amp

is there hum??

I sent Temple two videos - one showing the hum through line 1 into my pedals and no hum when bypassing the 4 way patch, and a second video where I was plugging into line one, then directly out the other side of line one to my amp. Same thing, buzz through the 4 way patch, no buzz otherwise. I'm not going to bother repeating the process for three other inputs at this point. I don't really see what the difference would be.

The buffered patch should be showing up today, so I'll probably get it installed tonight and see what difference it makes, if any. Still no word from Temple on the videos I sent.

And you are using the same cable from the last pedal to your amp as from the last pedal to the patch bay? And if so the cable from the patch bay is also tested for hum?

I ask because I used to get a build up oh hum over time with just a locking neutrik trs.

It wasn’t caused by it but seemed to be a build up Of static or something. At any rate I copper taped the ground on one of my cables to the chassis of my board and - gone.

since then I have an all wood board but also all new soldered patch cables and it’s a silent as a tomb ( using the same connectors).
