Chances are that if you do not end up modifying your module, you and your pedals will be just fine, but I stand by the fact that a short condition will exist at the last pedal. This is easily confirmed using a conductivity tester.

Hmmm that seems strange to me , maybe I’m missing something something from your earlier posts. Or maybe they’ve changed something with the 4 way jack module ? I haven't experienced this it wouldn’t make sense to build it this way intentionally.
I’m not doubting your experiences with it just saying it’s weird and doesn’t match mine.

Hey Charlie, So are you simply saying that if I make the adjustment/modification to that particular In/Out on the module (Last Pedal->Module->Amp), and run my setup as you see in the pic, that the issue is no longer a problem? Does that also mean that that particular In/Out will ALWAYS go in the new direction and cannot be reverted (Inside Facing Jack is now an input, and the Outside Facing Jack is now an output)? If that is not the case, then what are the implications of making that adjustment/mod to that in/out on the module aside from fixing the issue?

The modification is not easily reversible (but it could be.)

Based on your questions, I would suggest you leave your module as it came stock from Temple. I would wager that 98% of those who own the module have done the same.

Clearly, Temple has provided a way to un-normalize jacks in the module for those who require this and if necessary I would contact Temple directly for more information. ;)

I'm putting together a Temple Solo 18 board now with a Le Bass and will be using the 4 way module as soon as it arrives, so I'll do an update here shortly on whether the XLR is still muted in that configuration.

One thing with the Solo 18 and a Le Bass, you have to either factor in enough space away from the side handle for an XLR cable to be plugged directly into the pedal or figure out a method for running an XLR cable under the board. I found a (really expensive) low profile XLR cable that I'm going to unsolder one side on, run the cable through one of the access holes on the board, and then re-solder. I bought the Temple micro punch plate panel that works with D type connectors and bought an XLR pass through D type connector on Amazon so that I can run my XLR out on the same side as my 4 way patch.

Also, I have some nice patch cables I had made up a few years ago that have Switchcraft connectors and Canare wire that I was planning on using. They worked OK, but I wasn't really happy with the stress being put on the cables to configure them the way I wanted and ended up ordering some EBS flat patch cables instead that I think will work better.

The Cioks DC10 power supply I was planning on using was also a little awkward to try to fit underneath the Solo 18 and was overkill anyway for the few pedals that I'm using, so I'm dedicating that to a different board and also ordered the new Cioks Hi-5 power supply that is meant to be installed in one of the panels of the Temple boards.

I've also opted to use dual lock for now and see how it works out. I was planning on doing all of these purchases separately over time and make it a 3P (Pandemic Pedalboard Project), but the rail blocking the XLR out on the Le Bass started the ball rolling made it necessary to take the hit to my Sweetwater card and just get everything now.

The overall board looks fantastic, as I bought the gunmetal gray version and have three grey pedals on the board (Le Bass, Keeley Compressor Pro, and the Peterson StroboStomp HD). I have a little space left over in the event that I want to add a pedal or two, but I'm kind of hesitant to do so unless they match the gray color scheme. ;)

The power supply and patch cables are scheduled to arrive today, so I'll post a progress pic once I get that part of the project together and more as the rest of the pieces arrive.

One other thing...has anybody tried to run a headphone signal through the 4 way patch module? I've used a Rolls PEM50s in the past for a wired in-ear system, and was thinking I might toss it on this board. I already have a cable made up that combines my instrument cable and a headphone cable, and it'd be cool to plug both of those cables into the 4 way patch if possible. Says that they work as TRS, so I think it should work(?)
 
Power supply is in and cables are run. Those little screws are a real pain, but it looks really cool! The EBS flat patches work perfectly!

I just need to install the XLR feed and 4 way patch module when they arrive. Hoping for tomorrow, but it may take longer due to the holiday shipping situation.

OK, installed the 4 way patch today. I’m happy to report that the XLR on my Le Bass works fine when I’m using the module as an input and output.

However, I get a loud hum using the input with either my passive Jazz or PBass. No noise with my active Stingray. This happens even when I plug directly into the in of the patch and then directly go from the out on the other side into my amp, bypassing all of the pedals. Waiting to hear from Temple before I make any alterations in case I need to send it back.

I was going to post pics, but tore everything apart to trouble shoot.

Interesting about the hum... I have a custom board I threw together in a modded flight case and also get the hum. It seemed to be radio waves because when I touched the aluminum with my foot (socks or bare) the hum went away. The only place the the pedal path possibly touches the aluminum is the screws holding my Neutrik locking connectors to the board (which is still unlikely). At any rate - I used some copper tape left over from shielding one of my basses and connect the sleeve of the last pedal to the chassis - hum is gone. I don't know if it's a bad ground on one of my many cables or not but without it the hum actually increases over time and would disappear for a while after grounding with my foot. Almost like there was a static build up or something.


I have since redone my board and the problem has not reappeared but I do have some copper tape just in case...

Interestingly enough, even running directly into the patch and then out and into my amp I get the hum, but it stops if I unplug the HI5 power supply. I switched out the HI5 for my Cioks DC10, no hum in any configuration.

I can also eliminate the hum when using the HI5 and module together if I go into my tuner first and then into the module, but that defeats the purpose of the module.

Guess which power supply has a 2 prong plug and which one has a ground pin...

No problem at all with the HI5 if I don’t use the patch module. I know bupkis about electronics, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to ground and/or shield that first input on the module. Hoping Temple gets back with me tomorrow.

They may be a little short staffed due to covid...

In Canada it isn’t business as usual and many businesses are running with less staff or staff working from home. Hopefully they get back to you soon!

I was mostly just being snarky. My business is the same. I'm the only one currently coming into work, and even I work from home when I can.

I'll probably call them tomorrow if I haven't heard back.

I'm looking at buying the patch mod and coks hi5, did you ever here back from either of them?

Well, yes and no. Temple did eventually get back with me after an extended period of time. We never really got to the bottom of it and I have to say that they weren't very helpful, but I did eventually figure out that it in my case it seems to be an isolated problem with a particular outlet in my music room. I ended up going with the Temple punch plate that allows you to install 3 D type panel connectors and used some locking 1/4" pass throughs instead. It works great, but likewise hums like crazy if I use that particular outlet. I've gigged with it now at several locations with no noise.
 
The 4 Way Jack Patch Module

To turn any of the four jack pairs into an output jack, one must cut the related trace on the PC board. This assumes one knows to do this! ;)

You will notice a circle on the trace in need of cutting and I highly recommend one use a small drill bit to bore a small divot and cut the trace. Do not go through the PC board, just divot out the trace by breaking the surface coating and underlying copper.

hi @CharlieC -- Im very limited in electrical knowledge, but interested in getting one of their 4 way modules, and like will use it on my GK 700RB effects loop, so basically only going to use two of the four inputs/outputs. Can you guide me thru this please.

If #1 is and the "input" that I will have connected to my effects send, and #4 will be the pedal board "output", cabled to the effects return. Are you recommending I cut that circle area on only #4?

Should you still wish to pursue this modification or have questions about it I would contact Temple directly. ;)
