This has been briefly covered here, but looking for more input from folks who use the OCSD with their amp/cabs.
I run a relatively clean, but sometimes gritty, snarly tone with my jazz bass into a Mesa D-800 with Subway cabs (15 and 12). I'm not using tons of distortion or overdrive, but I almost always have some grit dialed in via a Saturn V, MDB-1, and/or Tone Hammer. I love the way it sounds most of the time, but when I jam/practice I only like to bring one of the two cabs. My complaint is that I sometimes sound a bit thin or nasally when I kick in some OD/distortion. Likewise, with my always on grit/magic boxes (Saturn V and PPB), I think things can sound a little thin/brittle through just my 1x12.
Anyway, I'm wondering if the OCSD is useful for tightening up or altering the sound of an amp/cab setup? Will this be useful for adding some punch/heft and impersonating different cab setups through my rig (within reasonable expectations)?
I like the fact that it's effectively an HPF/LPF, and if the headphone amp is decent it could replace my 3Leaf Enabler. I'm just wondering if it's worth it when I typically play through amps, versus it being way more valuable for folks who do tons of recording and ampless gigging?
Thanks!
Wohaa..
why did i missed that??
I use the affected output on my amp + cab (fairly flat EQ, Barefaced 2x12 FR-FR cab) and this is the best thing !! My cab could sound like many other different cabs if I wanted to, but it's still a single fairly light and compact cab compared to other, much bigger alternatives that I don't miss anymore.Hey all current owners...how do we all use the OCSD? I've been using the unaffected through input to my onstage rig and the DI to front of house. Is anyone using the affected signal to onstage rig and FOH? I was initially worried about the 2 signals sounding different (my FOH PA is quite a flat signal whereas my Ashdown ABM cabs already have a baked in tone), but I'm thinking I'd like to use at least the high and low pass filtering on my amp setup too. Gonna try this tomorrow night.
Thanks for the mention MD!!Not a clue, it's definitely been making the rounds
And yes, that is indeed me
I run my OCSD into my JDI, and the thru on my JDI goes out to my preamp in the rack. It's a good setup for me!I’m going to leave my JDI on the board and run the OCSD thru it. Best of both maybe? Turn the pedal off if I don’t want that sound, on if I do. We’ll see when I get it. Maybe do one set with the pedal as a DI and one running it thru the JDI.
