NPD: SA Aftershock

Well, now I feel a little silly for being concerned about the footprint of the tap tempo switch, I wasn't taking into account that the AS was going to make some other pedals completely pointless. The OhSeeDee model is a dead-on match for my Joyo Ultimate Drive...same drive character, touch sensitivity, and performance with a boost in front of it. I will have a lot of playing around to do with this...

Excited to be part of this "club" :hyper: Purchased my Aftershock from a fellow member who happened to be local, thanks again JimmyM :)

Lots of info in here (I've "only" read through 40 pages so far :bookworm:), but I'd figure I'd ask some direct questions I have:

Is it possible to sync the presets and changes in the Neuro App, and the desktop editor? I notice that on the app, I have everything I add to my library, including adjustments made to downloaded presets, but on the Desktop, it only shows the ones I've made or modified, and not the originals I downloaded.

Is it possible to go from Green mode to Preset mode by just holding the pedal down? Or do you have to double click, and hold? I've already activated the quick preset switch option which makes it faster, so that's a plus.

Just out of curiosity, What is the main difference between the "regular" engines (tube, crunch...) And their "Bass" versions made for the aftershock? Are they based on the same pedal/inspiration, or totally different? Edit: just found the answer to this on the engine description list. "The "Bass" versions use the same engines, but voiced and EQ'd for bass. "

Judging from previous comments, are version 2 or the drives just darker versions of the originals? I know it's been said of some, just not sure if that's the same for all.

Welcome to the marvelous realm of SA. While there are a few presets specifically for bass you are really free to use and explore the other engines because all have the same tools of gain, saturation, mix and EQ tools. I found it best to use my ears and eyes when exploring sounds to discover what sounds i like and which settings create the textures i preferred over others.

Roger or Nathan may correct me on this because it's been a while for me, but I believe that due to the differences of different operating systems and the code they have to write for each, you'd have to duplicate the download process for each version you're using. This could have changed recently, but it was thus when I was more involved with it.

Can't believe I got through all 121 pages... :bookworm: Lots of great info and ideas to toy with. Also nice to see the updates that came along the way. May need to look into that tap tempo switch down the road. (Not to mention, other SA One Series such as a modulation...)

My new Aftershock will be here in a few days.
I am selling my Darkglass vintage microtubes. There are some presets that come close?
I liked it a lot but I would like a little more versatility... ;)
I had the B7k too but I didn't like it very much.
I skipped on the VMT and went with the Aftershock as my first pedal (no regrets considering the amount of options). But I would suggest you play with the tube drives, Low OD presets, or even the Bass TS9000 engine, and possibly remap the Tone And/Or Clean knob for Voice, or Voice Frequency to see if it can replicate the ERA knob of the VMT. I'll be trying this myself, but have nothing to compare it too.

Tried plugging my AS in after some time on the sidelines and no sound. I updated the firmware, LCD lights turn on and off when stepped on and pedal responds to the Neuro editor fine. Sound passes thru when turned off, and I tried different power supplies and cables.

Any ideas? I did just sent a message to SA support and I'm sure they will be their typical helpful selves.

Not sure if this is better here or the S.A.S.S. thread, but what exactly does the "Distortion Mix" option under assignable controls do? I wasn't sure if it was just reversing what the "Clean" knob does (direction), or a drive channel blend. It doesn't seem be be either. I'll keep messing with it and see.

You mean the drive max control? Sets the maximum available gain that the gain control will sweep through.

Is it fair to conclude that: Aftershock > Drives on the Hx Stomp?
Sure, on the hxstomp you can parallel blend, crossfade, add preamps and anything you want to make a bass friendly tone, but the AS is just more straight to the point, plus there's already a lot of presets in the cloud so I have to scratch my head less around them, I feel.

That one I understood. I'm talking about the assignable options for the Clean and Tone knobs in the drop down menu. It's listed as "distortion mix". Although I do believe it may have something do to with the Drive Max parameter in relation to the Drive Knob.

Early in this thread, one of the SA engineers described each engine having a Wet and Clean level option and showed both of those parameters (not the drive Max). I might plug it into the computer to see what changes it does in real time.
Edit: here is the post described above. NPD: SA Aftershock

Turns out that parameter is not in the Neuro Desktop app, it's listed as Clean/Distortion blend, as opposed to individual settings. With a preset that has Distortion Mix set in the Neuro Mobile app, It automatically goes to Voice, which is the next option on the drop down menu.

Oh well, not gonna stress it too much.

Bought an EQ2 last week and was so impressed i started looking at other SA pedals and GASsing. Was mostly looking at used to save a little cash, but am now about halfway through reading this thread and just pulled the trigger on a new AS solely because of the interaction that @rsmith601 and @nnavarro have given to the users here! Truly impressed by the customer service and happy to pay full price to a company like this! Can’t wait to get the AS and start working my two SA pedals together. And save up for a Hub, Midi controller, one of the modulation pedals and a Spectrum.

Do you guys know if you can make a preset with a LPF? Just curious if it is possible with the Neuro App
Do you mean a standalone LPF? Or creating an LPF-type effect with the AfterShock?
If the latter, i’m not sure without splitting the signal. The Low Retain knob acts as a HPF, so as you dial it up, frequencies below whatever it’s set at are unaffected by the effect. But as far as LPF off the top if my head you’d have to split the signal ahead of time and then dial down the Treble and adjust the parametric EQ to dial out higher frequencies in the signal going through the effect. You possibly could run it as Mono In-Stereo Process-Mono Out and do what i said above to path 1 and run path 2 as Clean-No Effect and see if that works for what you’re looking for.
