I explained it badly. I agree 100% that they sound different, and the PPB by itself doesn't do a fraction of what the Ictineo does. What I do think they have in common is that they fill the role of a tone sweetener or magic box. I'll put it this way - my PPB and Aguilar have been watching from the sidelines since the Ictineo showed up. They all have a place in the rotation, but I'm really digging what the Ictineo has to offer right now. It's a phenomenal pedal.

Glad to be of service! I lurk way more than I post most of the time, so it's nice to be able share some of my experiences and impressions.

I will try to work up some sound clips at some point soon.

The main basis for my comparison is that I don't like the PPB into the Ictineo nearly as much. In my mind it's because they fulfill a similar role - that little extra magic and clarity. The PPB into the TH is like a slightly darker, woolier variation of the Ictineo. Hope this helps.

If I can get my recording interface back up and running, I'll try to record some clips, if only because I'm curious if my impressions hold up under that microscope.

Yeah, I feel exactly the same about the PPB and the Ictineo......don't like the sound of them together as much.....it's either the PPB or the Ictineo....very weird....everything else sounds great into the Ictineo though....the PPB into the 5th Gear into the Ictineo is very nice....though I usually take the PPB out of the equation when using the Ic and the 5thG and instead use my Esterly Boost

What don't you like about the PPB into the Ictineo, or PPB into 5th gear into the Ictineo? Great board by the way!

it's hard to explain.....it seems that the PPB into the Ictineo the tone goes darker and volume drops....I know all I have to do it twist a knob or two and the problem is solved but I'd prefer not having to bend down in the middle of a riff.....the Ic and the 5thG are fab...so is the 5thG and PPB and that little Esterly Boost is just fab with anything or nothing.....

I was tweaking a mix today trying to solve a highly 12 string guitar part that was a bit honky. Generally I use my White Instruments EQ or Sholtz Instrument EQ but already had the Ictineo in the loop and decided to try it. Started with everything on Sub, then 600Hz and adjusted the Body and Tone and viola there it was.

So maxed out on the body knob seems like the flattest response and it's an increasing mid-scoop turning it down from there. Presumably the dip frequency changes as you play with the tone knob as well?

Thanks Josh for the plots. I'd be curious to see what's going on at 10:00 and 2:00 as well, as that's the typical range where I usually find myself setting the Body. Never at the two extremes.
