Hi pallino,
I've had my brand new CR4M more than three months ago, I play it at least one hour a day and I've never experienced such a problem with the batteries.
If you keep experiencing probs then you should contact NS.
David Kowalski is a great person and will give you some good suggestion.
I've never had problems with the stand also, but I would agree with who said you should try to screw it very carefully.

I'm currently investigating options for gig bags and cases for my WAV. I'm not confident that the stock gig bag could withstand touring, so I looked into the NS flight case. It seems to go for almost $500. Does anyone have experience with it? From the photos, it looks improperly sized (too long), and there is no way to also keep the tripod in there. I guess you could just throw the gig bag in the case, but then the tripod can still bump up against the bass.

Mooradian quoted me up to $400 for a custom bag. There's no way I can just justify or afford to spend 50% of the price of the bass just for a gig bag.

The Undercover from Bass Central seems pretty nice, but the shipping almost doubles the price. Does it really cost $125 to ship a gig bag?

edit: BC misquoted shipping to me, so that gig bag is actually reasonably priced.

I have the Bass Central Undercover NS bag, and it's an order of magnitude improvement over the stock 'bag'. It's sometimes tricky to fit the tripod stand in it's sleeve, but shouldn't be a problem with the Wav stand. The grey color is nice.

Grazie Daniele! Infatti...: just an update on how it went with my case: I've contacted David at NS - he's a real nice guy - immediately he put me in contact with the Czech factory (where my CR is produced) support people, that first tried to send me a replacement for the cable that connects the batteries to the preamp - i got the cable in 2 days! unfortunately this didn't solve the issue,so David suggested to send the bass to the factory for repair.i contacted the factory guys again,and they have arranged a superfast shipment from holland to Czech republic,where the bass has been repaired and sent back in less than one week time!
This is what i call MINDBLOWING CUSTOMER SUPPORT! NS Design is great,not only because they make wonderful instruments,but also for the added value of their great post sales service and support.
I am an happy fella again,and I will now happily play this CR4 for a looong time... :hyper:

hi there
i'm a new proud owner of a NS CRM5.
i'd like 2 know u'r guys rec. regarding cleaning the upright without damaging the wood. i'm refering 2 the lower neck section where my fingers play..
another question - is it ok to leave the upright connected 2 the stand 4 a long time or should i return it 2 it's case after playing?
i hope i didn't sound 2 stupid i'm very new with this exciting upright world

When I first got my CR5M I had absolutely no DB experience at all. I chose it simply because it looked/felt/sounded so dang cool. I thought nothing of any of its inherent differences from a real DB.

However, now that I'm doing quite a bit of serious reading gigs with it, I'm wishing it had some of the landmarks you would find on a DB, specifically the heal. This is mainly because I can't afford to look at my hands, and I find it so easy to lose my position. Has anyone seen any sort of glue-on/tape-on heal for the back of the neck? Not a full size heal but something that would approximate the feel of one?

Also, I REALLY wish I could get my right hand thumb under the fingerboard for leverage when plucking.

How have you guys dealt w/ these issues?

The differences in gauges are slight, I've had customers try different strings and switch from B-G to E-C without consequence. I think the last switchero went for a set of Corelli 370, they make a high C as well as low B, and are quite compatible with both the bass and the mag pickups. I've not done any mix and match with Corellis and the CRM stock strings, however, but it could be worth a try.

I've got a high 'c' Piastro pizzacato string for $15 and a high 'c' Thomastic spirocore for sale for $20 that would work great for your bass.

Does your bass have the magnetic PU as well? Both of these strings have a steel core so it will work. The Piastro is the brighter, more aggressive string for plucking only. The Thomastic is a little darker sounding, but easier to bow with, if you use a bow.

Cheap way to find out.;)

NS Design actually has an optional stick-on heel made for the double basses. They ran out a while back, but David at NS just let me know that they are back in stock, so we'll be ordering some today and will add them as another item on our web site shortly.

This is my "in progress" description for the web site:

The optional NS Design Double Bass Neck Heel is ideal for bassists who like to have that familiar reference point on their electric instrument. As you probably know, most upright basses have what is expressed as a "D" or "Eb" neck-- meaning that when your hand is in the neck pocket it your hand is in a D or Eb position. This custom heel is designed to fit the profile of the NS Design EU and CR basses; it is not suited for the WAV4 or BassCellos.

Hi Everyone.

I have recently bought an endpin stand from the bass centre to use in place of the tripod stand. It's a great option as i tend to move around quite a bit while i play, and now the NS moves with me, so its all good really and I dont go all cross eyed.

I have a small problem - I have a tendency to pull the bass towards me with my left hand when i am playing, its probably a bad habit, but when i play acoustic DB its not a problem.

What i am finding is that the NS is sliding in the socket connected to the endpin stand, and after 2-3 minutes i have to adjust the bass back to its straight position. It does not seem to be a secure fit and its a bit frustrating.

Was going to ask the bass centre if they had had any comebacks with these stands but thought i might post something here first.

Has anyone had a similar problem? any solutions? should i take it back and get a new one?
