Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Puck Drop

Here we go....Pens at Rangers. I didn't even check the other games tonight. My co-workers are all depressed since the Bruins lost to Tampa Bay. Suddenly, all they want to talk about is the Patriots. :(

This is the first one that I can remember being called, and it was absolutely deserved, the only problem that it was a Bruin - Seguin.

I'm actually glad that it was called. I hate diving so much, I'd rather take the penalty in the hopes that it will discourage others.

Anyone else seeing any diving called? Also, I don't recall a lot of diving in any of the other games I've seen. Does anyone else think there is less? more? about the same?

What the thunder???? Did you guys see what happened to Taylor Hall? That cut is only an inch or so from his eyeball. He wants to play Saturday, and was mad he couldn't play the night it happened.

Keep your helmet on at all times kids. Stay in school too.

I agree 100% I don't care if it was Tyler Seguin or my mom, diving is lame and there should never be a place for it in the NHL.

2011 Stanley Cup Finals - I remember a Canuck called for it I believe...

First...allow me to apologize to NHL fans everywhere. I just noticed that NHLN used the Pens broadcast for the game tonight, so everyone was exposed to the homerisms of Bob Errey. To listen to him, the Pens are undefeated and every Pens player is an all star. I listen to the Pens radio broadcast via the Droid app. I'm a big fan of Mike Lange.

As for the game, what a great win to break a four game losing streak to the Rangers. Solid defense and smart hockey for 60 minutes. I love it. I had no idea Letang was going to play, and what a difference he made. Malkin continues to tear it up, and now leads the NHL in scoring. This little three game run is good to see after that dismal losing streak of six games.

Next up is my buddy Subban and his Canadiens Friday night. Another national game on NHLN. I hope they use the Montreal broadcast.

In conclusion...it sure isn't the same without The Xym posting with us. I hope he's alright. He must be proud of his Red Wings and Jimmy Howard.

THUD! (sound of me hitting the deck hearing a Pens fan admit to their announcer being a homer)

At least he's not as bad as the Buffalo guy.

Yeah, use the Montreal broadcast, in French!!! :D Hilarious when I've tuned in to a game on Center Ice and get a French lesson.

Next year's Winter Classic should be good for weather. Was -3 at home today. Funny problem is a lot of snow festicals had to be moved this month because of no snow so far!

Saw most of the third period of last night's Isles/Flyers game. Once the Flyers got the fire lit, the Isles were on their heels for the rest of the game, but the Flyers still had too many passes that just wouldn't connect and too many shots off target. Nabakov also looked stellar.

The Pens lose player #6 this season to concussion symptoms as Aaron Asham is now forced to sit out. He was out seven weeks last year with concussion symptoms. I worry about him now, especially since he doesn't shy away from a fight.

Interesting note from the Pittsburgh paper....for the first time since October 22, 2011, the Pens had their top seven defensemen healthy last night. They all played against the Rangers, except Lovejoy who was a healthy scratch.

-Mike

That has to be rough. As I learn more about hockey at a deeper level, I can really see how those defensive pairs need to have chemistry and time together. Like for the Pens with Letang and Orpik or Martin and Michalek.

With Asham now out, I wonder who is going to go after Pacioretty tonight. Maybe Engelland? He's a wuss though, even though he is the Pens fighter. I miss Hal Gill and Gary Roberts.

-Mike

Not only chemistry, but when your top guy is out that's a huge workload to be passing on to the rest of the d. Your top guy is on the ice for half the friggin game, & your 2nd guy is on for probably the other half. Right now, of our top 3, only one is playing. That's a lot of slack to pick up.

Anything you want to talk about? Just let it all out, man.

Congrats on getting a team back in Winnepeg! Sadly, they looked good last night...along with every other team who plays the Sabres. Again: :bawl:

Our hope here in Buffalo was that a Billionaire owner who's a FAN would turn things around fast. Well he spent the $$$ but we look worse than last year. I still have hope for the future, but right now they're tough to watch anymore.
