Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Second Period

I'm with Team Chara on this one... they got the only (playing) Cap in Wideman. Plus, I wouldn't mind seeing the Ottawa fans get put in their place by the Maple Leaf players (all of whom are on Chara's squad) since they booed Lupul so mercilessly every time he stepped up to the mic.

Same here, Team Chara is going to smoke Team Alfredsson.

Datsyuk and Malkin paired up with someone like Perry or even Hossa....then Chara and Timonen backed up by Thomas. Not a chance for Alfredsson and his buddies.

Yeah, All Star game is mostly a joke. Looking forward to the skills competition though. At least it's not as pathetic as the NFL All Star game. Football is a sport that is basically impossible to have an all star game.

The guys on the radio this morning were suggesting they make the Pro Bowl a flag football game. I don't know if that would be entertaining or not, but the players may actually exert themselves. Frankly, that idea is no more clownish than what the Pro Bowl is already.

I like the game and all the events around it. Fun times in a relaxed environment. For you guys who don't like it, what are you expecting from the game that you're not getting?

-Mike

Hockey. The "relaxed" environment doesn't provide anything that even resembles entertainment. Watching these guys coasting around the ice like fancy boys is like watching the English Patient.

I think Alfredsson picked the better team. He picked pairings on the offense. He's got the twins, he has his line's center Spezza, Giroux and Hartnell are together.

There's no defensive pairings for either side and defense isn't the name of this game anyhow. Unless Thomas steals the show, Chara's team is going to be on the short end I believe.

I'll WATCH the ASG, but without any real hitting, it's not like a "real" game. Lots of fancy skating, which is fun to watch, but they know that nobody's gonna' clock them if they don't keep their head up.

I do love the skills competition though. Looking forward to that, as always.

As for the teams, it seemed to me as though Alfredsson and Lundqvist appeared to be putting more thought and collaboration into their choices than Chara and Lupul. I think the team in white has a pretty good chance. But what's the deal with the Sedins'? Daniel looked flat-out pissed when his brother made a joke about getting a chance to play with "good players" last year when he and Daniel were on opposite teams. They never even spoke to each other from what I could see.

Alright, so it's me and HollowMan for Team Chara. The rest of you lackies can take Team Alfredsson.

Maybe they should do a competition at the NHL arenas for fans to compete for a couple slots in the skills competition. How cool would that be? Probably as cool as the usual outcome of those "million dollar shot/pass/kick" contests you see now and then. But if you had to compete and win your way to it, you eliminate the random drawing deal where you get some 12 year old girl trying to kick a 30 yard field goal.
