Seems like no one knows what's going on. Announcers couldn't tell us if its the stick or skate for the speed challenge. Why did the first pair skate backwards? Announcers also didn't know why the fastest 2 skated again. What a mess so far lol.

Yeah, they were great. Elliott was really having some fun. Price was too, especially when he played Couturier off the glass.
The accuracy part must be harder than it looks. It made a few snipers like like minoe leaguers.

This is fun so far! Best moments were Kane's Superman shot, Carey Price making the no-look save, and Corey Perry with the tiny stick.
And +1 to the accuracy competition being deceptively hard; seems a bunch of the guys had trouble with it.

Those are not necessiarily mutually exclusive thoughts.
Marchand has some bad hits and the NHL brass hates him (out of proportion, IMHO) to his misdeeds. There are plenty of examples of hits similar to Marchand that have not, to date, attracted the same disciplinary attention.
Subban didn't get any time for his high elbow (followed immediately by his best impression of a turtle). At some point, (hopefully soon) Subban will get the full Marchand treatment (guilty until proven innocent).

Team Alfredsson was cleaining Team Chara's clock in the skills competition especially the shootout. Maybe Big Z was picking with just the game itself in mind. Glad to see that the hardest shot stays in Boston. Although the only things more impressive than Z's shot are the D-men and goalies that throw their bodies in front of it to stop it. 
Fun stuff so far. I love the mic'ed players, especially Carey Price. These players are really hooked on their social media.

Team Chara! Called it.
Even though it was a fluff game, it was still a lot of fun. Hartnell recorded a hit, which I think they said was the first since Keith Tkachuk got one in 2009. Lots of very impressive goals, maybe highlighted by Malkin's ridiculous angle over Lundqvist in the first period.
Even though it wasn't competitive in the typical sense, it's a lot of fun to watch, particularly since hockey players seem a lot more respectful of each other and appreciative of their fans than athletes in other sports.

I was amazed throughout the whole weekend how many of the players were on their cell phones half the time. Even in the locker rooms and everything, it was almost unnatural to see guys on their phones.
The skills competition was great and the game today was inspiring. Players looked like they had a blast and there were certainly some notable goals.

I wasn't expecting an intense display of the best hockey in the world. I got what I wanted....the best players in the world having fun on the ice with everyone making great plays. The Malkin goal was great, so was the one from Tavares.

I guess I'm alone on this, but I did NOT like the comedic "penalty shots". Too carnival-like for me. Here's what I DO like about the skills competition (in no particular order):
- Hardest shot
- Fastest skater
- Legitimate penalty shots
- One-timer drills
- The drill that's kind of a relay-team exercise (accuracy passing into the little nets, etc.)
- Accuracy shots (with the 4 targets in the net)
I can do without the "Clark Kent/Superman" kind of stunts. Just seems out-of-place (to me) in a hockey skills competition. I know a lot of you guys will say it's entertaining. But I think the actual skills events as well as the genuine fun and camaraderie between the participants is entertaining enough. I will admit though, that some of those showmanship routines do demonstrate a great deal of skill. Juggling/carrying the puck on their stick is a great example. That definitely takes some practice. But all-in-all, I guess I'm just a traditionalist. (Of course I AM pretty friggin' old...)
Oh well, here's hoping the Flyers can get and stay healthy, and have a great second half/playoffs...
EDIT: Oh yeah, the All-Star Game itself: Lot's of nice goal scoring, but didn't keep my attention like an intense, counts-in-the-standings kind of game does. Nevertheless, it was much better than that lame Pro Bowl last night...

I watched three shifts, which I think is two shifts shorter than two years ago. Last year I skipped altogether. This event just isnt for me.
I watched the skills comp though. parts of that were great.
Come on Jeff....you didn't even like Carey Price stonewalling your boy with his back to him? That was great, but a close second to Price Tebowing.
I don't think the ASG is meant to be an intense competition. You're expecting too much. I do agree that it is way better than Pro Bowl. I quit watching that a few years ago. I don't know why I like the NHL ASG so much better. I guess it just feels like there are less egos doing the "look at me" after every play.

Did you guys hear about Crosby? Now they are saying he has a neck injury. It took a year for all these best of the best specialists from all over the USA and Canada to finally figure this out?
