I don't think the ASG is meant to be an intense competition. You're expecting too much. I do agree that it is way better than Pro Bowl. I quit watching that a few years ago. I don't know why I like the NHL ASG so much better. I guess it just feels like there are less egos doing the "look at me" after every play.

Is Jagr still out?

Did you guys hear about Crosby? Now they are saying he has a neck injury. It took a year for all these best of the best specialists from all over the USA and Canada to finally figure this out?

I think Barry Melrose said it best that the All-Star game is a big thank you to the advertisers and manufacturers of the sport rather than anything for the fans.

Jagr was still out. Loved the little salute he got from both Hartnell and Giroux at the skills introductions.

Heard about Crosby, but I heard the thing was healed already, they just found out it had been broken.

We can't "lose" Weber because he will still be an RFA. Even if we can't make an agreement with Weber, we'll get him for at least another year at his current price. Suter is UFA though, and that creates it's own line of problems. Several prominent Preds are looking at a contract year, and Poile is a trade deadline dealer. It is unlikely that he will deal Suter with us making a playoff push, but I can see some of the "role players" getting moved around. Blum and Halischuk are coming up in a lot of discussions.

As far as public statements are concerned, Suter doesn't want his contract status affecting the team. He said he would rather focus on winning now and getting a deal done in the off-season.

No, and it had nothing to do with it being Couturier. It could have been somebody I don't like and I still wouldn't have been all that amused. Was it clever? Sure. As was the Tebowing. But none of that has anything to do with a hockey skills competition. Stick to the accuracy shooting and things like that. Now get the #### off my lawn... ;)

I haven't heard anything about the status of Jagr or van Riemsdyk. I hope they're soon ready to come back. Sucks about Crosby. Such a talent, and they (the Pens) can't even utilize it. The good news is that they seem to be doing just fine without him. But what a boost that would be for them if he could come back totally healthy...

Making the playoffs twenty years straight hurts your franchise on one way. It makes it very hard to get real studs in the draft. And although it's amazing how well they've done. They've had some setbacks most notably on D. They lost Jiri Fisher to a heart condition, Rafelski to career ending injury and Konstantinov to a freak accident. With Lidstrom probably retiring this year, there is no doubt in my mind the Wings will make a play for a stud Dman, wether it's Sutter or Weber I'm not sure. I do suspect it will be at the trade deadline.

Holland has manipulated the cap masterfully so far, as the Wings haven't had to give up any players of consequence for cap space and have remained contenders.

It doesn't hurt you in the draft when you can pull gems out in the later rounds as Holland continues to do.

Can anyone try less than Jagr did tonight on that shootout goal?

Big win from the Pens, erasing a three goal deficit in the third.

Great game in Tampa. I really thought the Caps were going to get the two points there.

Anyone see Vanek get popped in the head? I wonder if he is the next concussion victim. Ryan Miller looked good tonight.

Fixed...


So, we finished January with an 11-2 mark, Rinne picks up (Franchise Record) win #10 in a row, and we showed some great character getting the win tonight. I was planning on having to come in here after a loss and trying to dispel trade rumors with a blog post or 2, but if we keep finding a way to win, we may be looking for rentals on the way to a SC Finals.

Interesting Ottawa-Boston game.

The break seemed to give the players on both sides a lot of energy but there was a little less sharpness.

Ottawa was up by 2 goals then the B's came back with 3 unanswered including a slapper from the red line by Seidenberg that somehow snuck in - it is unclear if the d-man got a toe on it just below the blue line or if sailed or curved on the goalie.

I'm glad that hockey is back.

Cool deal jp, I didn't realize the Preds were down by three as well. How did Suter and Weber look? Malkin and Letang looked fan, Neal seemed slow a few shifts. He must have been the one closing the bars every night, although I figured Letang for that.

We actually looked so bad that I walked away from the TV at about !0 left in the 3rd. I came back in with around 6 left after a buddy texted me that we might pull it off. There was definitely a little ASG hangover this year. We found a way to win, and we didn't quit, but the team from the first 50 mins was a different team than the one that won the game in the last 10.
