Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Second Period

Eh,...I give them all the benefit of the doubt,...they are there to report a story. If we wanna give any hockey media personality crap,...how about NESN homer play by play announcer Jack Edwards.

I can't watch a NESN feed without needlessly screaming "SHUT THE **** UP" at the screen. I expect a certain amount of homerism and JJ, Jonesy and Clement aren't beyond it,...but Edwards takes the cake. He wears his bias on his sleeve and pretty much vilify the other team if they so much as look at a Hub crossways and the Bruins can't do no wrong,...ever.

At least CSN Philly's announcer will give the other team props and slight the Flyers when they are getting outworked.

As a B's fan I LOVE Jack. I know what he is & he is entirely biased. But I'm ok with that since I know what to expect & his bias usually goes in my direction. His rants/analogies can be damned hilarious if you let them. He's the color.

I'm new to NESN, and I enjoy the Bruins broadcast overall. There is one guy who can sometimes be annoying, and it must be this Jack Edwards fella. He is no worse than Bob Errey on the Pens broadcast though.

After watching just one period of a Root Sports Pittsburgh Pens broadcast, you'd find out that pretty much every player on the opposing team is out to get Malkin, Neal, and Crosby who are the top three players in the game ever. Oh, and a Fleury would be better than he is if it wasn't for all the guys interfering with him.

I'm sorry but the few games I've watched on Philly's station had over the top homerism.

I still don't know why Pittsburgh got rid of Lange he was the best of the best. I don't think Erry is that bad but when you have to announce with Steigerwald with extended periods of time it will drive you insane.

Lange does radio. I listen to all the games via the Pens app on my Droid. If I watch too, I turn down the volume on the TV. Although it is hard sometimes to keep the audio and video in sync.

I am with arbitrary, I Love Jack's ridiculous comments; can you say hyperbole? After all, sports are entertainment first.

Hyperbole is exactly what it is,....I'm sure he knows what he is doing and as I said,....other commentary isn't above homerism,....but I've heard in some of the other markets (like Carolina) where the commentary is seemingly unbiased. Maybe it's cause those guys don't care as much about the team and are just doing,....a job,....

I'll give Edwards one thing,...at least he cares about the Hubs.

I'm a fan of Jack Edwards as well. He knows the game and his hyper style of play-by-play works well with color man, Andy Brickley, who is pretty down-to-earth in his commentary. I don't hear excessive homerism in either of them - when the Bruins mess up, Edwards and/or Brickley call the team on it.

I prefer the Bruins guys to the Pens TV guys any day. They're darn near about to make me a Bruins fan.

I remember them being really mad at Marchand for one of his hits, then another game it was a 180 about how the NHL hates him. I wondered to myself if someone from the Bruins told them to stop bashing their own players.

One thing I do like about those guys is they are down on Subban like I am.

A week or so ago I was watching the Flyers vs. the Wild. I remember being very impressed with the unbiased, fair-minded analysis by the Wild announcers. If their guys were called for a penalty, they'd watch the replay and say, "Yeah, that was a good call. He definitely hooked him", or whatever. With some announcers, a penalty against their team is NEVER warranted. ;)
