He was just invited to the morning skate in Toronto by Holmgren. Lot's of photos out there and some video from it though during the game last night. Cool shots of him by Jagr and he makes Jagr look small!!! (even without shoulder pads!)
But can you imagine being in that locker room when he walked in with his equipment?
I only caught the third period and overtimes for that game. I liked how the B's were able to match a desperate teams intensity and then how they came back with 2 quick goals late to tie the game.
If I did the math correctly, they need 1 point to be in the playoffs and 4 to win the division - both seem doable with 5 remaining.
The Caps were very impressive in the shootout - the one where Hendricks faked Timmay off his skates was sick.

Ouch, but the fans are not out of line. Toronto, as the largest city in a hockey-crazed country, should be the NY Yankees or Los Angeles Lakers of hockey - the place with the most money to spend and a place that players want to be. I'm not that familiar with the history of hockey but are the Leafs the Chicago Cubs of hockey or is there a better match in one of the 3 other big North American sports?
Kessell had the right reaction though, you have to win games to get the crowd back on your side.
The Leafs are terrible year in & year out for one reason: karma. The media rams them down the rest of the country's throat year in & year out like they're the only team in the league, so the universe needs to balance itself out somehow.

I actually agree. Although it also has to do with upper management. The Leafs could loose 82 games in a year and still sell out every game. There is no incentive, from a business point of view, to produce a winning team. Not to mention that the same people also own the arena, the Toronto Raptors, the Roger's Centre (where the Blue Jays play), the Blue Jays, the stadium where the Toronto FC (MLS club) plays, the Toronto FC, the Toronto Argonauts (Canadian football), and the Toronto Rock (Lacrosse). Every single one of those teams turns a profit without having to win games, why spend the extra effort to have good teams?

You'd think with all those scrutinizers it would be in their best interest to maintain a contender, though. If I was running the Leafs, I'd offer Detroit's scouts triple what they're making now & lure the entire group over......
Interesting, when Toronto won the World Series in 1993 it had the highest salary in MLB and in 2011 when it finished 4th in the AL East, it had the 25th highest salary. Coincidence?
Tampa has shown that you can win without oodles of money but the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Phillies, have shown that if you want to get in the playoffs year after year it is easier if you spend some money on good players.

Also saw pics of fans wearing bags with signs "Fail for Nail" and some guy even taped a sign to the glass telling fans to throw their jerseys vore the glass since there wouldn't be any playoffs again! And he had just thrown his over the glass. WOW!
Great to see Johnny solid in the net tonight for the Pens! He gave up one weak goal and was solid the rest of the game, especially in the 3rd. Good morale boost for the team as he's a favorite in the locker room.
So, tonight was a big win for the franchise. Win #500 for Trotz, and the only way I could be happier for him this season would be if he was to be able to hold the Cup with the guys at the end of it. 500 wins for both him and the franchise, and I'm glad to see them do it the right way. Trotz deserves to be in elite company and maybe now he will finally be recognized for it.
Win #50 for the Rangers. Last time we did that was 93-94. Had some struggles in the second, but overall we dominated Montreal. Del Zotto showed his stuff with 2 goals and an assist. We'll need that secondary scoring and points from the D going into the playoffs to have any chance.
Lundqvist is also two away from 40 wins. He nearly had the shutout tonight, but Rene Bourque squeezed one through with about 3 minutes left in the game. I know he really wanted that one, but we'll take the 2 points regardless.
Currently one point ahead of the Blues in the league standings. The Pens edging out Buffalo tonight makes it a little tougher, but only 3 more points to lock up 1st in the East. I'm still grateful for those two wins from the Islanders... it's rare that I find myself rooting for them
Last four Rangers games: Bruins, Flyers, Penguins and Capitals. This is going to be quite a finish to the season with some big conference games. I foresee some heavy hitting.
Excited to see what the Capitals do in the coming games.. they can wind up the 7/8/9 spot or be the 3 seed and edge out Florida.

I agree, I must admit as a Detroit fan, Nashville is the franchise I fear the most this season. I think because they know they're going to lose a couple of guys they are playing with a win it now reckless abandon, and Renne is a beast in the pipes.
The Wings were as good of shot as anyone before all the injuries. But in the last three weeks it seems like half the team went down with "little" injuries. Datsyuk, Franzien, Lidstrom, Bertuzzi, Kindl, Howard, Homstrom and Eriksson all went down. The good thing is all will be back for the playoffs, the question is, will the lousy playoff seeding, injury recovery, and lack of playing time together down the stretch effect them? I fear the worse.

The good news is that there are no shootouts in the playoffs, so they might have a chance of winning if a game goes to OT.
The bad news is that it looks like they'll face the Pens in the first round.
They normally play the Pens tough, but the Pens are peaking while the Flyers are not. A lot will depend upon whether Bryzgalov gets healthy. And if so, will the injury layoff affect the confidence streak he had going?...
They (the Flyers) lost to Ottawa today in a shootout. Ottawa had a 3-0 lead after one. Flyers scored 3 to tie it in the second, and it stayed that way throughout OT. Read scored the Flyers only shootout goal. Not sure what Giroux was trying to pull on his shot. Looked like he was just playing around trying trick shots in practice instead of taking it seriously.
And I thought Pavel Kubina played an awful game. Several blatant giveaways in his defensive zone led to excellent scoring chances for the Sens. One led to a goal, and a couple others could have. I'm hoping that was just a single bad game for him. I expected more from him when they signed him.
