You have to give the division winners something. I don't know if it should be the top three seeds, but a spot in the top eight seems just.

Here's an interesting stat about drafting I picked up from a game preview-
From the draft class of 2007, the top three all time goal scorers are:
1. Patrick Kane- 123 goals - taken 1st overall
2. Sam Gagne- 76 goals - taken 6th overalll
3. Jaime Benn- 70 goals - taken 129th overall(that's 5th round...)
Sometimes teams do well in the draft lottery, and sometimes teams get lucky.
Stars face the Sharks twice in the final few games- the division will be won head to head.

Hockey seems to be between football and baseball in terms of how well draft picks work out which makes sense as football players are older and can be evaluated against a pretty good standard of competition. Hockey players, especially kids who play major junior are playing against better competition than the typical American high school baseball player sees but less than the typical American college football player sees.
There aren't many first rounders that don't see at least some NHL games and it seems that half the second round has some sort of career - about a third of baseball's first round has less than a year of MLB playing time and only about a third of the next round has some sort of career.
The B's best recent draft was probably 2006 Kessel, Lucic and Marchand in rounds 1, 2, 3. Overall - 5, 50 and 71.
To be fair to Detroit - they haven't had many high picks because they win too many games.

I was going to reply to this, telling you how wrong you were. Glad I didn't... this game makes me want to vomit.
Flyers played like they were tuning up for the playoffs tonight. Leafs played like they were on the golf course already.
Caps pulled it out though! Three excellent shootout goals to get that super-important extra point.

We just clinched playoff trip #7. We've made the playoffs 7/8 years running and 50% of the time we've been in the league.
Next on the checklist is the trophy that made a stop in downtown Nashville today (or at least a replica did).

Ruff has the Sabres playing well right now and hungry for that playoff berth. Pens don't seem to be as hungry right now. That could spell disaster for Pittsburgh of they are looking forward to Philadelphia on Sunday.

Chimera given a game misconduct for a hit on McQuaid last night, which left me pretty angry.
