Here's a new one for $475 on eBay - NEW IBANEZ ATK305 5-STRING BASS, 3 COIL PICKUP,TRI FADE - eBay (item 150567210326 end time Mar-23-11 19:59:53 PDT) . The price isn't unreasonable, but if you're patient, and have the searches going on, you can find one for about $300-$400, with shipping.

I have searches on eBay for "Ibanez ATK", Ibanez ATK300", "Ibanez ATK305", etc., just to see what's out there. I own a 1985 ATK300 already ( lefty), and bought a Black-Sparkle ATK 305, which is new, and a righty. It's a great bass, and god luck with your search!

I've looked high and low, but MF was selling them new for $199 and lower just a couple months ago. And I'd rather pay something closer to $200 than $300.

Those are blow-out prices, and happen fast, and rarely. You should have jumped on one then.... otherwise, you very seldom see them for that price. My roommate got lucky and bought a 1985 ATK300 for $225 plus about $45 shipping, but that was an exception.

I hope you get lucky and find one for a good price. I bought mine for about $410 with shipping, and the 305 I have I paid about $400 for with shipping. That's a fair price. As I said before, if you can wait until you find a really good deal, then you'll do all right. But it may take awhile.... good luck - it's worth the wait!

You're not going to find that man. Hate to say it but save up if you want one. Those who want Wals dont have/find a cheap option, they buy Wals. if you want something badly enough, you will patiently wait and save up. both of my used ATKs I got for $400-$450 shipped, and a new one (right before they went on sale) for $370 shipped.

I bought one when they were on clearance but it wasnt for me, it was for a buddy. he got lucky, but do I feel like I got jipped? NO WAY! not even jealous in the slightest. just happy that my friend got a good deal. I was more than happy to pay my prices, and would again. Heck I even took one of the old ones and dropped a $400 custom fretless neck that I had made onto it. these are serious basses that should command serious prices. If I were to sell mine they would all be +$400 range. thats supply and demand. now that Ibanez has discontinued the GOOD atk line, the older ones will regain some value. those who love and want the old atk styling/tone/feel will pay for it. sorry If this is all terrible terrible news, but its true. Just be patient, save up, and buy one :) or move on to another bass that fits your style, tone, and pricerange. no hard feelings :D

I think I may, but its not going to be easy. And I try not to buy any basses over $250 actually, its about my limit. I try to keep my expenses down in case something happens, whether it damage or stolen (I don't live in the best part of town, and I'm constantly moving basses from house to house and what not.). My only bass, out of the 5 that I've owned, that was over $250 was a gift and it stays at one house and never moves.

Tommy, I'm with Justin on this one... the ATK is worth $300-400 any day of the week, and closer to $400 is the norm. You got tantalized by a very low price that is most likely never going to happen again. You can wait for two year to see that kind of price again, and even then, you probably won't see it. Keep your eyes open, do searches regularly, and when one pops up for $400 max with shipping - THAT will be a deal! And when you're playing it, you'll be happy, and like Justin said, you won't feel like you got gypped.

I do look forward to seeing what you get, and what price you decided was good for you to own an incredible bass, which is under-priced for the bang, in my humble opinion....

Predicting prices is a fool's game.

I felt like a genius when I sold a highly modified (ie; butchered), worn-out '64 P-bass for $975 in 1984. Think what it would be worth now... On the other hand, who could have predicted fifteen years ago, that semi-pro level instruments would be coming out of Indonesia for under $500? That was a game-changer, and I don't think anybody saw it coming.

All I know is that the ATK is the only sub-$1,000 bass that I would currently consider as a stage instrument. I was happy to pay $300 and change for my 305 with a gig bag, and I wouldn't have felt ripped off if I'd had to pay $500. For my tastes, the only real competition would be a used EBMM, and what would that run me?

Like a lot of people, the MF blowout was the teaser that initially got me into the game, but it was the sound and feel of the instrument that eventually held my attention.

Yall are all right. I love the bass and its way under priced (hell I played it back to back with a brand new EBMM and it totally killed it). All I see it as is, if someone offers you a toy car, one for $5 and the other for $1 and its the same car, which are you going to buy?

Edit: I'm also going to check out the ATK today

Justin, Steve and Sixway have all made good points.
The ATK 300 and 700 series are one hell of a bass even at the original price.
The blowout hurt the resale for a bit, but I expect to see prices on these get a lot closer to the original sale price now that they are discontinued...even more-so with the 305's.
If you can snag one below 400 clams ya might ought to take the plunge....you've already missed out twice on the blowouts

So I played the ATK with rosewood, as much as I'd like it (just cause the price is about as good as I'm going to get), I don't think I'll be taking the plunge. The color, matching headstock (just in that color), and the rosewood are all deal killers for me though. I don't want to say anything too soon cause it all depends if I can get my stuff sold, but I have a highly possible deal on an ATK305. Thanks guys! You've helped me make the jump.

Edit: If I did have the cash for it and the 305, it would have been reeeeaaaaallll nice to have put flats on.
