I was wondering if it will fit since the atk is discontinued.
Inside the hole, it seems the ferrules can be fixed.
I will check later and tell you how it goes.

The ones from Stewmac should be ok...seems like I recall the older models, such as yours, had a smaller more shallow ferrule.
Don't know if that makes that much of a difference in replacing them....maybe someone with an older as well as a recent model can chime in in this.
A competent luthier can take care of it, in any case, should the original holes need to be widened to accomodate.

.really dig the red sparkle and those knobsThanks for the sentiment Funk. Its kinda my own fault. I bought it without playing one first assuming the neck was super slim like all the other Ibanez basses I've owned. I DO hate to let it go. But cant play it is cant play it.

I got my tri fade back today.....Man, the expense of having the work done on the neck that I described earlier was worth every freakin' penny!
Playability has increased tremendously, the fret and nut work my luthier did is fabulous......
I left my 750 with him to do the same work on that one...really diggin' the 14 degree radius.
Spoke with an Ibanez rep today at the music store I frequent and spoke to him about the Prestige
The pickup is a double humbucker...no triple coil and they start shipping in May.
He couldn't comment on it, tonally but I told him it may be a deal breaker if the signature tone I've grown to love is absent
We'll have to see...................
I'm waitin' on a few cosmetic goodies before I post a few pics of the 3EX1 model I just picked up and I'll try to get some close ups of my new and improved neck on my tri-fade

That is just plain sexy! If only it were left handed.... although I bought a righty Black Sparkle and may one day make a lefty body and swap the parts over...
Glad you like it. Did he replace the nut, or reshape the existing one? I haven't seen alot of nut replacements on ATK's and have wondered how it would do with graphite or bone.
The nut was replaced with graphite...the frets are #0149 wide/medium on the Stewmac site.

thats great to hear funk! you keep it with low action? I have mine medium to medium high on my main player because I dig in like a beast sometimes. my trifade is set up with deadly low action, and I mainly use it for tapping, with a wristband on the nut at all times. and then of course my fretless right now is the lowest the action will go. just curious as to what exactly you addressed in your upgrades.
also, as Ive been recording a lot lately, I fall in love with this bass every time. so far Ive kept everything flat in attack mode, save one time where I went trad with a slight treble cut. it has such a full bottom recorded. lots of oomph, balls, and yet still clarity. through my monitors there is almost too much bass flat, and through my senn 280 cans it sounds glorious. just wanted anyone out there curious about the recorded tone to know how it is.

My 10.9lb ATK showed up early this week. Overall I'm digging the MM type tone of it, but it's a bit more polite or mellow than I expected.
Any idea if this mainly comes from the Ibanez preamp, or the pickup itself? Anyone tested swapping out the preamps and the effect of doing such?
Personally I'd rather mellow out a bass via tone controls than I would struggle to add clarity or bite to it.

Pickup AND preamp. A lot of people actually buy an ATK specifically for the mellower mids. It isn't quite as scooped or as glassy on top as a "real" MM, but it does better "P" tones in Traditional mode, and can sometimes sit a bit better in a conventional mix.
One of our brethren put a German pickup and a Glock preamp in his ATK, and gets amazing bite and clarity.
I was thinking about a Glockenklang. I've liked them before. Still trying to decide if the 11lb weight warrants it though.
I think I'll try some stainless strings I have laying around on it first and see how that adds bite.

A barely used set of ProSteels worked nicely and added the touch of bite to the tone I was looking for.

Thanks Steve...I'd recommend the Glockenklang as a replacement....The pickup has it's own thang going on that I happen to dig...the Basscultures pickup in my tri-fade offers another flavor a bit closer to the Stingray sound.

The 3EX1 I picked up recently came strung with a set of light gauge Rotosounds that I actually like better than the DR Lowriders I usually use...I also use the Elixers to gig with....hate the tone of 'em but they freakin' last a hella long time,....so I compromise a bit as they save me money, in the long run
