Official ATK Club (Part 3)

After selling my third ATK305... today I received my 1st ATK 4-string... this previously owned transparent wine red beauty. Although the official model number may not have an "ATK" in it... the bass definitely looks, feels, sounds, and plays like an ATK. I love it. I ordered a set of CircleK balanced 112s to try on it since it is factory spec'd for BEAD tuning.

Can I join the troops in the ATK army?

transparent wine with rosewood...B E A D....looks like a Paul Gray signature ... happenin' bass, bro

Yep. The final telling feature would be a Slipknot inlay, but I can't tell from the pic if it has that or not. If it doesn't have the inlay, you may have a custom shop ATK. Eitherway, they would have been high-dollar ATK's so congrats are in order if you got it for standard used ATK prices. OK, congrats are in order anyway. ;)

If I counted the frets he is showing in his pic correctly, the inlay could be there...assuming it has the same number of frets as a standard ATK:hmm:

Just checking in:

So i'm playing bass in the pit for a musical... my first musical gig EVER!!

After a few weeks of "OMG WHAT BASS SHOULD I USE", and then finding out our space is EXTREMELY limited, so rather than using an electric bass AND a double bass... i had to JUST use an electric, and "try to cop as close of an upright tone as possible" with an electric.

So, after LOTS of testing... i decided on my good ol' '95 ATK300!!!

I can reliable do an acoustic and electric (duh) tone with the bass. Also, as it IS a heavy bass, it's actually REALLY comfortable to play while sitting down with zilch neckdive.

It's kinda taken a backseat the last few years, but my love is completely re-affirmed!!


I love how i'm using all three pickup modes in the set, too!!

I have some foam under the strings by the bridge... in 'neck possition mode' with the treb cut, the mids just slightly cut, and the bass bossted, playing up at the neck, i actually DO get a really nice thump! The 'electric' songs, i use the 'middle' position, boost the treb, mids at the 'neutral notch', and bass boosted eeeever so slightly, and playing by the bridge... THEN, 2 sonds call for a pick... but meh... i don't like playing with a pick sitting down... so i go to bridge possition "ATTACK MODE!!1!!", keep everything pretty even and ajust the trebble to a desired level of 'attack' and spladow!!!

Also, the guitarist also plays bass... and is ritch... his set up is a Mike Lull PJ4 and a crazy Mesa apm/cab setup... but i've totally impressed him with my ATK->70's Traynor YBA-3->1x15

Feels good, man.

You are absolutely correct. The bass is a 2009 PGB1 with the inlays. I purposely cropped the pic to hide the inlay.

The bass has a fantastic finish and a beautifully grained one piece ash body. The fretwork is the best of the four ATK's I have owned so far. I like Slipknot... but I bought the bass because I liked the overall look. I'm a fan of "tribal" inlays so I actually like the signature fretboard inlays and the lack of fretboard dots.

I watched this bass for close to two months before it had a $100 price cut. I was able to get the bass and hard case... both in excellent condition for $399.99 plus tax and shipping. The grand total to my door was $457.26

I was very surprised that it arrived with an excellent set up and a fresh set of stainless roundwounds. I'll give it my own full setup after I string it with a fresh set of Circle K balanced tension 112's.

I really like the feel of this 4-string, and I already loved the sound of the ATK triple coil pickup and eq.

You know your ATK's... and more impressively... you've got some amazing chops. I really enjoyed listening to your "Funk Factor Bass Jams."

I'm anxious to see how your Bunker necked ATK comes together... and how it plays, feels, and sounds compared to the factory Ibanez neck.

I'm going into the studio soon to start putting together some of the original demo's I've posted recently that I also had to play guitar and (cough) sing on.
Yeah, I love my ATK's .... I don't GAS for anything bass wise anymore...I've found my sound>

No email stating that my neck was shipped today, so I guess it's gonna be Tuesday ....bummer :(
No doubt, I will be posting a review as well as pics
The custom neck work that I had done recently took my ATK's to a whole new level of playability and comfort .... I'm anxious to see what the Bunker neck adds.
Then....what to do with the original 3EX1 neck ;)
