haha...you have me considering swapping the strings on my 700 & 750!

I didn't put the chromes on the 750 originally because I thought it might get too boomy & then I wouldn't use the neck pup, sooo. I love the neck pup on the 750 & wouldn't want to give it up.

Low Riders sound about like Hi Beams, but have less tension, is that right? They are on my list of strings to try....right after Sunbeams.

I prefer the tone of the neck position single coil with the flats, THand...I do cut the bass just a tiny bit in this position....seasoned to taste
High Beams are a bit more pliable due to the round core...Never compared 'em side by side but I think they sound similar...Sun Beams are warmer.
I prefer a bit more tension in feel

Sorry! :D

Totally get how to do the mod....

but why would you want to!?

I tried it and the difference was negligible...seemed like a bit of loss in the low end in traditional mode.
Didn't see much sense in it, and returned it to original
That tone is available on my 700 but I never use it.
I'm more into the Jamerson tone over the Jaco'ish single coil at the bridge tone.
If that's what you prefer...It's your thang...do what ya wanna do

Totally in agreement, Justin..
Ibanez hasn't aggressively marketed the ATK...or anything outside of the SoundGear line, IMO
I also think they discontinued the 700 series a bit too quick...and the total absence of a 5 string model is ridiculous.
I can see the strategy of lowering the series model to 200 with them having a Prestige model to bolster sales in case the Prestige doesn't do well....but they should have kept a 5'er and had a model somewhere in the middle...such as the 700 series.
Some new colors would be welcome too ( Surf Green, Burgundy Mist, Shell Pink, etc... ) would be welcomed also

I would love more colors! solid colors-shell pink, baby blue, mint green, antique white. clear finishes-dragonburst, blood red, amber (like the old ones) deep purple. all with maple boards. ohh man. I would definitely have at least 7 ATKs. I already have plans for another fretless.....finshed exactly the same as my black one, except all in arctic white. ying and yang fretlesses.

So I asked this two pages ago but I didn't get any replies. Are Rotosounds okay for through-body stringing? I'm using standard scale D'addarios right now and they're too short for that.

Bare minimum, you're going to have to dink around with a razor blade on the silks, unless you go for their extended-length sets.

There's a "click here" at the bottom of each Rotosound product page, that takes you to their scale and string length guide. Be sure to use the ball-to-silk measurement at the bottom of that page, as the ATK has an unusually long behind-the-bridge string path. You could start here:

FYI, if you're playing a 4-banger, they do 66's and 77's in extended scale: RS66EL and RS77EL, 45-105. Ditto for 88's, but the RS88EL's are 65-115. The nut was a little tight for the low B with D'addarios on my ATK305, so you'd probably have to do some shaving if you fit 88's...

No joy if you're playing a 5-string, and the EL sets are going to be special-order most places.

In my experience normal rotos don't make it, although the cheaper non-cotton ended nickel ones do. It's only the newer ones of the "budget" range (I dunno why people would be willing to pay that much more for strings for a bit of cotton, if you have the bass long enough it'd be worth the cost of new tuning pegs anyway it'd seem, and if your using flats surely they can't cause that much wear...) that will reach when doing string through, so maybe the other rotos will fit now.

Thanks guys! I play a 4-string ATK and I'm planning to get a set of RB50 strings (50-110). I read on the website that these strings don't have any silk wraps, so I guess they'll be okay for through-body stringing (like SwamiRob said). Cheers for your help! :)

At one point, there was a lot of discussion about refinishing and rewiring here. I ran across this thread today, and thought someone here might find it useful. Its not an ATK, but there is a lot of good info:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=737205

I keep thinking about doing something like this to my blue moon 700, but I'm a little apprehensive that the maple top could come unglued from the heat gun. It has a really nice top, but the blue is so friggin' dark, you can barely see it!

^That is a good thread but I couldn't help but think he was trying to make his SR and ATK Prestige while viewing it lol.

The wiring part interests me the most though. I think it'd be fun to mod a GATK to have the selector switch. Not sure if the humbucker would work though.

That would be a fun mod. The pup looks the same(from the top anyway)...so there may be possibilities. That GATK is beggin' for some creative modding.;)
