Anyone used/use D'addario Chromes as standard on their ATK?

Yes, I did for awhile but changed over to rounds for a few months when I needed it for a heavy rock project where it needed to cut through a wall of distorted guitars. Plan on putting D Chromes back on... they just really sound great for funky/jazzy stuff which is what I mainly use my ATK for.
I'm gaining a new appreciation for MM-style humbuckers.
First, it was finding that with the right settings, my ATK305 could sit in a mix in roughly the same way as a P-bass.
Secondly, this weekend I was mixing, and the bass player had a Warwick Corvette double-buck. I heard much the same thing- it could clearly snarl when required, but it could also do smoother, sit-in-the-pocket sounds quite convincingly.
As a diehard fingerstyle player, I was never much of a Stingray man. I guess that must have been the old 2-band preamp as much as anything...

I have chromes on my ATK700. It's nice to have one with flats. Lots of beef. Hearing FunkFactor's sound clips convinced me that I needed one ATK on flats duty!

If we're talking the ATK, I haven't found a huge difference between the character switch settings. With nickel rounds, I'm getting a reasonable "Fender facsimile" in any position, depending on how I tweak the EQ.
The front position (single coil w/filter) seems to be the best starting point, requiring relatively little EQ.
If we're talking about the Corvette double$$, that's an interesting question. The guy appeared to have a medium-light touch, and indicated that he had the inboard EQ set "fairly neutral", whatever that means.
His tone was round and warm, and not much growl, so I would assume humbucking.

To me, that's like going from P to J.......definite difference in tone.
...but I agree....the front single mode is the best P-ish type tone.
I also have a Corvette $$ 5......along with the ATK305.
I had been using it similar to a P....neck pickup solo'd in series mode. I would call the tone a lot more low mid focused.....so fairly similar to an aggressive fat P bass tone.
You can get it to growl with certain settings.

Seems to depend on touch, amplification and EQ. At first, I wondered if I had a bad example, but I found the same thing with a second ATK I picked up recently.
Both my rigs (an Eden head into a pair of 3-way, "hi-fi" cabs, and a modded Bose L1) are less scooped than most bass amps. Playing fingerstyle wiith the ATK set flat or the treble rolled back, the differences through those systems are fairly subtle- the sort of thing that the player hears, but the audience doesn't even notice.
However, if I boost the treble on the ATK and go into something like a QSC HPR powered monitor, or an RB-800 (and especially if I dig in hard), then the J-like zing with the switch in the middle position is MUCH more pronounced...
I alternate between rounds and flats on my 750 ( need to whoop up some clips )

On another note, I hope the new CAP pickups in the Prestige don't change the tone from what I've come to love.
If they're trying to get more in the Stingray realm, tonally...I aint gonna dig it at all......if it aint broke...don't try to fix it

Yeah but I think thats almost Ibanez's thing..."fixing" things that int broke. I mean never realy expanding on the ATK in the first place...color options...6 strings...and now they up and change the pups, up the price, AND dont even offer a 5 string....I dont have much hope for the future. I'm just glad I have my trio, and if I someday get an endorsement deal, my sig will be a 5 string ATK, so all you little muggers can buy one again
Me too...but the two single modes are much closer to each other than the humbucking mode.
The humbucking mode sounds really "active to my ears".
I use Low Riders or Roto flats....throw a set o' flats on it and jam a bit on the 1st two positions, closer to the neck ... bump up the mids and cut the highs....bammmm.
1st postion is sho' enuff P Bass Territory ...2nd position is Jazz Bass....seems a bit more scooped than a Jazz and a bit beefier...adding some mids gets me where I want to be.
I actually prefer this tone to every J Bass I've ever played
I've also been using a piece of foam at the bridge.
Neck position and middle, on the 300's is similar but you can hear those high open up when in the middle....real subtle though
Going between tradition and Attack modes is very distinct to me.
I tend to use traditional mode the most....even when slappin' for a more old school tone
haha...you have me considering swapping the strings on my 700 & 750!
I didn't put the chromes on the 750 originally because I thought it might get too boomy & then I wouldn't use the neck pup, sooo. I love the neck pup on the 750 & wouldn't want to give it up.

Ibanez hasn't aggressively marketed the ATK...or anything outside of the SoundGear line, IMO
I also think they discontinued the 700 series a bit too quick...and the total absence of a 5 string model is ridiculous.
I can see the strategy of lowering the series model to 200 with them having a Prestige model to bolster sales in case the Prestige doesn't do well....but they should have kept a 5'er and had a model somewhere in the middle...such as the 700 series.
Some new colors would be welcome too ( Surf Green, Burgundy Mist, Shell Pink, etc... ) would be welcomed also

Diogenes has a website where he describes this. In a nutshell, you take the screws out of the pup, rotate it 180 degrees, and screw it back to the bass. The single coil that gets activated for Trad and Bright mode is now the coil closest to the bridge, instead of being the one closest to the neck (as it comes stock).
