Traded in my GSR205 today. I only bought it a few months ago so they gave me $250 + tax on the trade-in. (I had paid $280)
Picked up an ATK300. Blue body, pearl pickguard. I was going to get an MIM Fender Jazz but it had no chance after I played this. There was a 60s Fender Jazz that I liked as much as the ATK, but it was $220 more. The ATK was a steal at $480.

Dang, I like that color! It goes great with the maple board and the pearloid pickguard. Very nice.
Yeah I'm real happy with mine, only problem is it's got a horrible boxy mid range when you play it through a crap amp, with anything a little more articulate it's very nice though.
Mine's in Ebony, he's started doing a huge range of strange and extoic woods by the sounds of it, does them in Zebrawood now accordingly, crazy stuff.
i played one once at sam ash not too long ago but it had roundwounds and i was rushed, so i didnt get to test it out too much, but do you atk guys think that with some nice flat wounds the atk will have a big bottom, mid range thump sound? I play mostly reggae.
Crap.
I played this new blue ATK a bunch over the weekend.
It's too heavy for me. I guess some people like the weight, but this is just too heavy for my liking. It sounds great though!
And I think that the fact that I was dreaming alot over the weekend about that Fender that I also liked... says something as well. I can chalk that up to just "remorse" or indecision or something.. but the weight of this thing I cannot.
I think this is going back today. Damn. I guess the ATK is not for me.

Yeah mine was killing me till I got a decent strap, could still do with something a little better though.
Cut the Treble ALL the way or maybe a little short, and boost the bass a little, then mess around with mid range till you like it. I found with the stock pickup the bridge setting had maybe a little too much sub bass when you boosted the lows for reggea, and suited dub a little more, but with flats the neck setting should be fine.

Went back to the store for lunch hour. Played the ATK and the Fender, put on good strap (even better than my nice one at home) and tested both.
I ended up giving back the ATK and walking out with the Fender. Yeah I had to part with more money... which sucks. Part of me is disappointed since I liked the ATK EQ and it's generally a very nice bass. The weight was just too much.
I like the Fender though. i'm happy.

yeah is a turn off for some people. I think the reason I could handle it was because I lift weights and my favorite day is chest and *back. My drummer and guitarrist find it heavy too. They were used to fiddling with my ibanez sR but love the tone of my atk way better.
There's indeed a reason a more heavy bass guitar has a more profound bass sound. Now, the new generation of ATKs are actually lighter than the first generation, not much but a little bit. --Kent
The orange ATK just arrived! Cool bass. Spent a little time investigating the tonal options. This thing definitely has a set of brass ones. Plays very nicely, too. The weight of the bass and neck width aren't as bad as I thought. Then again, I've only played it for 15 minutes so far.
Love these basses, I saw one being played at church camp a few months before I started playing (3 years ago) and just loved the pickguard and that huge bridge, and I promised myself I'd get one.... and now I'm gonna! its an 18th birthday present from my parents, sitting in their room right now waiting to be wrapped... unbearable tension!
Its a fretless 4 string, one of the old 90s models. I have a BTB 5er strung with halfrounds already that does the growly lows thing perfectly n a Yamaha TRB fretless 5er with Roto flats that does warm n mellow, so I'm gonna try and let the ATK take the fat smooth flats tone... what does everyone else use on their fretless ATKs? Im thinking some LaBellas might be perfect... I'll post some pictures in a couple weeks when I've taken it for a spin!

I know I'm gonna sound like an idjit, but are all ATKs active? Do they make a passive model at all?
As far as I'm aware their all active, I think a few people have modded them to be passive though. The pre-amp is the only active part, the pickups are passive.
