Hi everyone! I am new to the group. I bought my USA ATK 5 new in the 90’s, the day it came in to the local music store that my drummer’s dad owned. I played a lot of clubs back then and it got some very good use. Years later, I sold it to a buddy and in months I bought it back. I just missed the sound and could not duplicate it. Here is arecent photo with custom polished aluminum pick guard. The bass was originally “mood ring” blue, and I recently had it painted silver.

So here's me with my ATK500 (the original koa-topped ATK) MIJ wich seems to be somewhat of a rarity... It used to have a clear pickguard but the previous owner switched pickguards between this and an ATK600... He had had five 1st generation ATK:s and he told me that this was by far the best of the lot... Personally, I've never seen or tried another one out so I really have no idea, but I can tell for sure that this a GREAT instrument...

Lowmid - thanks for the advice - you've decided me not to get the Bassculture p/ups after all. I love the tone of the original one, so I couldn't imagine how anything could be better! It certainly cuts through all right, so I think I'll just stay as I am. If I ever get another ATK maybe I'll get one as an experiment. Cheers for the help.

Yeah...that is what I noticed with my ATK. My guitarist could turn up to "11" and my bass still would cut through the mix.

Good lord these USA ATK's are just killing me! I mean I love my Korean built modals but someday if I come across anything USA I may just have to sell one of my "Ill never sell this bass ever!" basses?

BTW does anyone know if a pick guard from a ATK300 will fit on an ATK305? Not sure if the neck width is the same or not...

Sign me up...I finally found somebody with a 305 in town and I couldn't resist. Playing the various 300's gave me the GAS, and when I saw this one looking lonely on the top of the wall (out of the hands of the kiddies), I got it down and lo and behold, it sounded and felt as great as I thought it would.

Went to the local music store today...boy there isn't a bass in there that I'd rather have them my USA ATK305! It is nice to see that after all these years, I find that fellow bass players feel the same way about the ATK. It just does it all! And the looks and weight of the USA ATKs make me think of the great muscle cars Just thinking out loud...
