Must admit to coveting this amp. My thinking is that if GB Class D offerings are so excellent, their "proper" old school offerings must be off-the-charts good. In the end my back wouldn't go along, but would love to know how they pair. Buy it!

My experience has been that the cabs can be driven with lower powered amps to usable levels and sound great. That being said, driving them with lots 'o watts makes for a very visceral experience. Both work, one is a LOT more fun!

Active is definitely not the same as HPF.

It does not look like it has an HPF and although the pre amp sections look nice it does not look like it has the high z impedance input so you would still need some sort of pre
Picked up a real cheap used TC Classic 450 yesterday to use with my One 10 for practising and jams. I wanted something that was small enough to sit nicely on top. I still think I am going to be stupid and take the V4B to gigs with either one or both of the One 10s, they just sound so good together. Didn't like the TC with it at first, it felt somewhat constrained, but I forgot how well the One 10 takes eq so sucked a bit of bottom and added some upper mids and ready to go. I suspect the Markbass was a bit more transparent then the TC but it had a much bigger form factor, and of course the V4B wins hands down on tone and transparency.

In the pocket n' thumpy. So woody, so greasy...
Did a outdoor gig-rehearsal last night with a Walkabout + bb2 and a jazz bass. This was the first time outdoors with this rig. Competing with 2 guitars, un amplified drums, voice. Admittedly we do not play loud and constantly try to keep volume reasonable.
I had a very very good tone. Now I can say the following things:
The bb2 is quite sensitive, the 150 watts of the WA were absolutely abundant
The tone, without room interference, was almost exactly the one
I can hear trough headphones and record with. The only difference I boosted 1-2 db the 250 hz and I was done. Massively bold but controlled.
Dispersion was out of this world
Definition was superb
Warmth and colour...those imparted by the amp

Why would you do that? For more wattage? Not needed if you have the right amp, and adding a Super Midget is the way to go.

You'd get approximately 3 dB more sound that way, since you'd be doubling watts by having a (theoretical-but-non-existant) 4 ohm BB2. You could just use a more powerful amp but if your amp isn't up to delivering enough power at 8 ohms into a BB2 to get the sound level you need, neither would a 4 ohm version of BB2 IMO (3 db, which can be gained with a volume dial onj an amp). Adding a SM to a BB2 (as DaveAceofBass suggests) would add way more sound level than the 3db from a custom BB2-- which I don't think Alex would do any way, for practical business reasons-- otherwise it would already be listed among his offerings.
And finally, let me say, I have zero trouble getting well more than enough level for all stage applications with an 8 ohm BB2, and a decent amp such as a GK MB800. But maybe you are just crazy loud or need it to fill an amphitheater by itself, neither of which is my situation. When I reaslly want to bring it I add my SM to the stack. I will never need more than that.

The GK MB Fusion 800 that I have puts out 560 W into 8 ohms.
The reg'lar MB800 is also 560W at 8 ohms. The MB 500 is 350W into 8 ohms.
Well, I'll have to live vicariously through you guys for a while longer. FedEx has finally admitted that they lost my BTII. They actually asked if I wanted them to keep looking for it. Nah, it's been invisible for 2 full weeks, I'm not gonna wait for another 2 weeks for FedEx to say the same thing. Hopefully, FedEx wil get with @alexclaber soon so we can move forward on this.
Bummer! While it's not Alex's fault, I hope he can find an opportunity to put your replacement build order toward the front of the line. I know he'll do the very best he can for you.
