Just got a notice. I should have my supertwin next friday. I don't know if anyone in the US has one of these yet.
Let me know how bad the customs process is (PM is cool). I'm curious how it will be with my Compact.
Hi Chris, I took it to rehearsal today and was very excited about it. Sadly, our drummer was obnoxiously loud and my amp had an off-day (some days, for some reason, it simply refuses to give me a decent tone, no matter which way I tweak it) so I was a bit disappointed. Not in the cab, just in the experience
Our sound guy (yes, we have one of those ...
) went around the room and said it sounded awesome and carries the bass for miles! The drummer on the other hand said he couldn't hear me. Probably because he plays with earplugs and beats his drums like they owe him money :scowl:But listening back to the recordings I hear a nice and deep sound. It could well be my imagination playing tricks with me, but after the first two hours I already had the idea that there was more bass present in the cab.
If I have some time on Sunday I will post a recording and send you a link or s/t, if you like. I do have to add that I was playing an electric upright (NS WAV) tonight, as opposed to my regular Fender Jazz. The WAV has very lousy strings and I am not a very good upright player
My supertwin should be delivered on friday. Ive got a happy hour acoystic rock gig so, i probably wont be home when the cab arrives. Ive got to say that im expecting quite alot from this cab. And with the price with cover and paypal fee being $1565 and then an unknown duty fee, I think that kind of expectation should be met. Ive played or owned almost everything so, its hard to get to excited. Its getting to the point that i can read a few specs and know what a cab is going to sound like and usually im pretty close. Ive got an idea about this one and ill give it a good workout and then do a video.
I have Super Twin #001, played a dozen or so gigs with it since I collected it from Alex last September. Wonderful cab, more than lives up to expectations. I play Fender Jazz & Precision basses though it using an Ashdown ABM 500 evo II, not been able to go above 1/3 volume on the amp with this cab yet. The Super Twin replaced an Ashdown 410 and the difference in sound (and weight!) is incredible.
Thats good to know. I have larger volume requirements. I use a genz sm9.2 and use most of its output. I expect the ST to handle that based on the specs. It has the same vd as my nv610. Will it handle that out put in the same way.....we'll see.
I just read through the entire thread again, just for giggles. Interesting to read that many people notice an increase in tone / volume after an hour or more of playing - I was wondering if it was my imagination last week.
Also noticed a lot of people use Genz Benz along with their Barefaced ... GB is hard to get in Belgium, and I am torn between either that or a Glockenklang (but it is twice the price of a GB if I get one in the UK). At any rate I will have to make due with my current head cos my funds are depleted
Also wondering whether at some point in the future, Alex would consider building an 8x8 for me ... Guess I will break in my 2x12 first, though

I think the Genz sm9.2 is the best overall gigging amp ever made and they can be bought dirt cheap now. I actually wish it was just a single tube channel and squished into a single rack space. I never use the solid state channel. The eq is the best out there, it sounds great because it starts flat, it's light weight and loud. There are some amps that definitely have their own mojo but, overall, none of them do so many things well, room to room.
SOB! My cab got delivered today! I have to work a double until 9pm, and at that point there will be no testing the cab out at my house. This is awsome and sucks at the same time. And of course, this is the only nice day we are going to have up hear in the frozen tundra crap hole that is northern ny. I could have brought the cab out to my parents house in the woods where I could crank this cab and have it broken in by dinner time. Oh well, at least I've got it.
I got out of work 2 hours earlier than I expected and just got done playing the new cab for about 45 minutes. This isn't a full review, just a quick impression.
The cab is really well built, you can tap on the cab anywhere and it's dead quiet, no ring. Of course, it is super light. I got a very nice felt lined cover with mine and it is of great quality. I played at mid volume for a bit and then turned the genz up to where the limiter started coming on and the cab didn't even care. Even though I know the sound will change as it breaks in, I like the way it sounds now. It is very responsive under the fingers, no boom or over-hanging notes, almost as fast as my nv610. It takes eq very well, better than most cabs.
I was getting ready to chock it up as "the best vented cab" I've ever used but, still not as punchy as the nv610. But, then I ran an fdeck HP filter in front of it and there was that super focused 80hz on up sound that I go for. I really turned up the volume then. The sound was pretty much the same at any volume which is very cool. The cab is being fed the 25hz sine wave as we speak. I expect the cab to get even better, though it really wouldn't have to, to make me happy with it. I most likely will continue running the fdeck with this cab as, I really don't use super deep low end.
So, I need to get this thing broken in and to a real gig. I don't have any electric gigs for several weeks and even then, the first gig is in a gymnasium type of club which sounds horrible no matter what you do so, it won't be a fair test. Anyway, I really like this cab and hope to continue liking it out in the real world.

I just went down to the basement to tuck the new cab in for the night. It's been breaking in with the 25hz sine wave for about 2 hours. I reduced the level and am going to let it run until I get up at 5am. About 7 more hours. It should be plenty broke in by then. If I don't have to work late again tomorow I'll be able to give it another listen.
The cab really can push out the air and I don't hear a single buzz, rattle or chuff at all. It is really well built. Not even any air coming out of the un-used speakon input.
My first impression is that it sounds a bit like the genz benz 212t cab. It is about the same brightness with the genz's horn off, mids are similar but the low end it more controlled and I can tell it will handle more power. It is probably brighter than the berg cn212 with the horn off, but the berg is kind of bloated in the 100hz region where the barefaced is flat. The berg wasn't as responsive under the fingers and had some overhang. Still, the berg is a great cab, this one is just better.
I'll bet the bigger version of this cab with the horn is just awsome but, I don't even need the lows twin puts out, much less the lower tuned big cab.
Will the super twin handle the same absolute volume as the nv610.....we'll see. I know that adding another super 12 would do it. A second super twin would kick sand in it's face......of course that would cost over $3k plus the cost of a bigger stereo power amp. More reports to come and eventually a video.
