If you always have PA support then just get the smallest cab you can find and run it tilted back in front of you like a monitor (I used to do this with an original midget back when I did the whole covers thing).

Thanks for this. Much appreciated. Do you run the D800 with the same volume and gain settings when using the SC? I`d be a bit concerned that if I do need to just nudge the volume up a bit from noon, that I run the risk of damaging the smaller cab. I should note that 99.9% of all gigs I do is without PA support.

As long as you're not interested in the higher frequency stuff, I don't think you'll be gaining that much in terms of portability in switching to the BBII.
The BB is 14.6 inches deep & the ST is 13.4 inches deep - in fact as far as stage (or horizontal carry space) the footprint of the ST (19" wide x 13.4" deep = 254.6 sqin) is about 4 square inches less than the BB (17.7" wide x 14.6" deep = 258.42 sqin).
The ST is 11 pounds heavier, but when carrying through doorways, I would think the ST should be easier to navigate.
The SPL difference between the BB & the Super Compact should be negligible on a gig & the SC would be easier to carry than either of the other two.
So basically, ST or SC, but I always prefer to have more cab than I'll need on any given gig just because I don't like feeling like I'm pushing a cab anywhere close to its limit.

Hey there, and thanks for the response and advice. Appreciated. I really do like the ST and without boring you with my main reasons for downsizing/down-weighting etc etc, it would seem that the SC could be a better option. I hear what you are saying about having more cab than you need, and I totally agree! Time to have a bit of a think.

I would put the D800 in 2ohms to reduce the power down for safety with the Super Compact. A big baby can take power so that may be a good choice.

The real key is to get the cab up off the ground and manage your expectations of feeling the bass. I can often hear it just fine but one speaker is not gonna give you that feel. I've not used my SC that much on its own but it is very capable. I had an original compact for many years playing in a rock covers band and never found a gig it couldn't handle.

A bit of a left field suggestion is try and find an old 15" compact, I think they were just a little louder (1db or so) but they aren't easy to find in the US.

Personally I have gone from a Super Twin to a Six10 so I'm headed in the opposite direction to you.

With the BB2 you'll get more top (horn), more bass frequencies (tuned cab) and less over all volume (1 driver and smaller cab compared to the ST). If you're just measuring volume, 2 drivers will usually out perform 1 driver. Alex rates the BB2 at 127 dB and the ST at 133 dB. Those cabs will probably be even up to a certain volume but above that line the ST will start to pull ahead, and keep going.

The best cab for you depends on which side of that line you play on, and the tone you like. If you like the sound and volume of the ST I'd try to stay with it.

How would a BB2 (1x12) produce a louder bottom end than a ST (2x12)??

That is the Retro Four10, great combo. Trying to decide between adding a 210 for bigger gigs or selling this and ordering a 610. Great matchup though!

The Barefaced 10's love a tube amp (and all amps, but especially tubes), I run a Fender Super Bassman through my Four10 most times. I too am considering an additional purchase/change to augment this, eventually... I am going to add a Two10 (the switchable 4 ohm/12 ohm model) so that I can run Two10 at 4 ohm, or the Four10, or the Four10+Two10 for small, medium, and large options. I think I'll prefer that to the Six10 which is great but doesn't allow as many situational options. Really, the Four10 delivers all I need, so the extra Two10 option to make a Six10 is just pure vainglorious excess.
